Title: Arcade VGA basic resolution question

Hi, i have a basic question. I've recently purchased an arcade VGA and a Jpac and will be converting a cab soon.

I'm currently running windows XP and running the Arcade VGA on a 4:3 LCD just to test things out. I have all the drivers installed and Mame (MameUI) has all the proper settings ie, Direct Draw, Hardware Stretch off, Switch resolutions to fit etc

My question is about game resolutions and how they will appear when i actually hook up to a true arcade monitor. On my 4:3 LCD some games such as let's say Killers Instinct (320x 240), or many Neo Geo games (320x224) appear to fill the screen completely.

but games such as "Street Fighter 2" (384x224) or most capcom games lets say or even robocop for an example which has nice black pillers on the left and right

how will these games actually look when i'm running through a true arcade monitor, will the monitor compensate for games like this and scale in or will their be black borders on the top and bottom of the screen or piller bars for certain games and is their a way around this.

Many thanks and i apologies if this question has been beaten to a pulp already, i just couldn't find anything specifically.

LCDs cannot actually switch resolutions, their native res is the only one they can do. The bars are likely the result of your monitor trying its best to process the signal.

An arcade monitor will probably have to be adjusted manually to fit the screen, and unless its a digital monitor the adjustments will have to be redone each time you switch games that run in different resolutions.

I'll be going VGA out from the "Arcade VGA" graphics card into a JPAC to an arcade monitor. Manually switching resolutions on the arcade monitor between games doesn't seem right, theirs many people out their that have mame cabs with non digital arcade monitors, surely theirs an easier way or a middle ground for this isn't their?

I leave mine (analog monitor w/AVGA) as d3d and switchres 0 so I don't have to keep adjusting. Hopefully a more informed person can clarify this.

Basically Arcade monitores were never supposed to switch resolutions every 5 minutes.
An operator would install a new game to the machine, then adjust the monitor once.

Running an arcade screen with an ArcadeVGA but having switchres disabled (MAME will stay on desktop resolution) basically is far from perfect but will work with every game.
