Title: my first build newbie 85% done (led help)
Post by: l3v3r2ooo on September 18, 2010, 07:56:33 am
well this is my first time building a cabinet so i decided to use the ultimate arcade II plans with a couple changes the biggest two are my arcade is 37" wide and i used 3/4" sandply cabinet grade plywood instead of 5/8 mdf  well we cut and routered everything and put it together and took it back apart and have got two coats kills primer and one coat black high gloss im going to be leaving here in a minute to put the other three coats of black on it so i can bring it home tomorrow and its going to be a quad cp with track ball and spinner but im putting my pc im currrnetly running since im upgrading next month so it will have a intel q6600 in a asus striker extreme 8 gigs of ram and 2 9800gtx ultimates in sli but im caught in between a rock and a hard spot im not sure if i should take my 36" sony tritron and have it decased which is a hdtv tube or if i should buy a 36" lcd any input would be nice the only reason why im not using a arcade monitor is because my cab will be a multigaming cab not just an arcade let me see if i can get some pics up (thats not me in the pic)

Marquees can get pretty busy. I would definitely go with something simpler with a bolder title. Make that stand out

here's another marquee i've been working on.

I like the second one, "Mind Bender," better than the first one.  I'm not too fond of the marquees with randomly placed sprites, even though yours is pretty good.  The custom signs like Mind Bender, makes it feel like it's a one of a kind true arcade (which it is!).

One criticism I'd like to add is to remove the "l3v3r2ooo Presents." I can barely read it and I think others would feel the same way too?

Side question: Lever 2000? How did you come up with a username from a brand of soap? Just very curious, haha.

Yeah I agree, the 2nd one is better. I also agree that it would look better without the top presents part.
Thats a pretty cool font

heres some updated pics ive filled all the screw holes and put on about 5 coats of black with a roller this time to give it some texture i think one more coat and some fill in is going to do it. i also put one little side of tmolding on that i had to see if i like the green or not i think i might go with light blue im not sure and i mounted the tv (its a samsung 30" tube hdtv) in it to see what it is going to look like and to come up with and idea for what kind of glass to use and what to use for a bezel and how to mount it all i think i got it figured out but any insight would be awesome and i put piano hinge on the keyboard drawer so thats it for now more to come

does anyone know if these sticks are any good i like the style plus you can switch from 4/8 way from the top of the cp im just curious i've seen other people using them   http://www.arcadeshop.de/Joysticks-JLF-TP-8YT-Sanwa_627.html (http://www.arcadeshop.de/Joysticks-JLF-TP-8YT-Sanwa_627.html)

Sorry, you cannot change 4/8 way mode from the top with this joystick. Furthermore it isnt a true 4-way restriction, you still can hit the diagonals some harder though.

I thought that the Sanwa JLW had the rotating restriction plate (to switch from 4/8 way), I wasn't aware the the JLF could do this?

EDIT: it appears you can, didnt know about that!

Title: Re: my first build newbie help with deciding cp metal/wood ?
Post by: l3v3r2ooo on October 07, 2010, 08:24:39 am
alright well my best friend works at a metal fabrication shop and im leaning towards having him make me a control panel im just curious how hard is it to make a cp in metal im not sure if i should counter sink the bolts or to have them fabricated underneath cp its going to be 2 player with  8 buttons a dedicted 4way a spinner and a 3" trackball @ 44"x 8"  im not sure how to make a button and joystick template so i guess what im asking is to commission someone to make it for me i cant use photoshop for crap ill post a pic close to what im wanting to get when i get home from work

As for the Sanwa JLW and Jlf.
They both have restrictor that can be changed around for 4 or 8 way.
The Jlw has the screws that you loosen and then rotate the restrictor.
The Jlf, you have to pop out the restrictor and turn it.
if you ask me, the JLW is the much better stick for old school gaming. I have JLWs and a JLF (which i spnt too much on) and I much prefer the JLWs.
to me, the JLF feels prissy and I don't think it really gives true 4-way. its somwhat possible to hit diags.
But the JLF is a popular 8 way stick for fighters in japan.

the JLW is an excellent 4way stick.  i have used several other 4way sticks, but the JLW is what ended up in my vertical classics cabinet.

looks great. i built the same cab.  my only regret unlike you i cheap out afraid of messing up and used OSB.. so i could not use t molding.  man t molding sure makes a cab look good.

even if its no fun to install. heh  keep up the good work.

Looks great.   You need a bigger screen with that size cab.

yes i know if you look behind the little monitor you will see a samsung hd tube tv which i was going to use but when i hook my system to it and set it to 1080p (the native resolution)only the center of my desktop is visable so im going buy a 37" hd lcd after christmas of course and fit her in there
