I have been building a cabinet based on the mameroom UA2 construction plans, and I was wondering if I should just laminate the left and right sides of the cabinet and just paint the front, back and interior black.
Or laminate the entire outside of the cabinet and paint the inside. Is laminating the enitre cabinet worth the extra time and expense?
Thanks!

I'd likely laminate everything that's easy to. I lammed almost every surface on the outside of mine, but it was relatively expensive and time consuming

It can be pricey and only essential if you need a very hard-wearing finish. Great if you can afford it, but if not then go with painting (just take your time) and add decent side-art.

IMO by the time you sand, prime, and paint your cab you could just save yourself some headache and just use laminate. Sure it costs a little more but the time you save is worth it. I got 2 4x8 sheets shipped to my door for right at $110.00, and 35 of that was shipping. If you live next to a cabinet shop you could just go pick it up. I would stay away from the big box stores(Home Depot and Lowes) HD wanted $98.00 for one sheet of Formica.

I think I paid about 105 for 2 sheets of black formica at Lowe's, the thick stuff. HD wanted a ton more. It was worth it in my opinion. Looks great, very sturdy and pretty easy to apply. Just adhesive, wait, slap on, router the edges. Applies very well on smooth mdf surfaces.
