This might belong in Software, but I'd like to see it get a little more coverage here in the main area first ;)
Is there a way, WITHOUT using an additional front-end, of having Mame32 be your front end list...but having Windows itself handle some sort of attract mode?
For example...I'm trying to figure out a way to set up a simple front-end with an attract mode for when the machine is idle. I dont mind if its a slideshow, if its playing videos, or whatever.....I know I could just set up a screen-saver, but I'm not entirely sure which screen saver to use. Hmmm..any thoughts?
Ideally I'd like to have it play music videos while its idle (random), or do mame screenshots...or something else......any ideas?

Use one of the many slideshow screensavers floating around the net (or including in more recent Windows installation). I think there are a few screensavers that can run videos floating around too.

Howard Casto had one that would actually rotate through attract modes of MAME games... if you inserted a coin, the rotation would stop and you could play the game; if you pressed any other control it would go back to the menu. (I THINK I have that description right...)

Yeah it is called Emusaver and it is very cool. Go get it! Too bad I can't get it to cooperate with mamewah.

I had seen one LIKE this that didn't work very well, so I was a little worried that you were talking about the same one. This one is REALLY nice though and super easy to set up. I found MY new SS. :)
Thanks Howard for writing it and thanks TalkingOctopus for linking to it!

Advancemame/Advancemenu uses by default the same screensaver: rotating games, with the possibility to play the current one by pressing a pushbutton (don't remind which ;-) Start or Button1 )

I'll give it a shot.......

Yeah the original is what inspired me to make this one. The author of the first mame screensaver decided to modify the mame source code, which was the wrong way to go as it limits what emu you use and mame wasn't a windows app at the time. Badness thus insued. Glad this one works better for everyone. :)
