I thought the iCade or other 60-in-1 boards don't have proper copyrights from the original holders? Seems like TILT is happy to host bootleg machines for money at this mall.

+1 and ;D
Illegal, but nobody is willing to chase every one of these things down.

i don't agree with people making money off others material/property but i'm not sure as a mame user i have a right to throw stones in such cases, and i think its best for all concerned that we all fly under the radar and just accept some people will make money off others work, it really wont help to start bringing these boards and therefore mame to more legal attention.

Simple Answer: YES

I've seen these all over the place. Laundry mats, pizza places, tattoo shops. There seems to be a resurgence of 'game locations' because of them.

I seriously doubt Tilt knows it has an illegal arcade cabinet. I'm sure they purchased it thinking it was legal just like the other cabinets there.
On a side note, I find it more interesting how many people were in that arcade. The last few times I saw my mall's arcade there wasn't more than 3 people in it and one of them was the worker.

I would be absolutely stunned, totally floored, if an arcade operator -- particularly one the size of Tilt -- wasn't 100% fully aware of the licensing issues with these boards. No way in hell they don't know.

That is if they are familiar with the emulator scene. Unless they browse online a little more than casually, there is a chance they could be ignorant to this fact. If it wasn't for this forum (and mame's), I would have assumed they had a license for those games...and I'm sure they present their product as such to the purchaser for Tilt. I'm just speculating....I have absolutely no idea.

I am, of course, talking out of my behind with no actual direct knowledge, but Tilt is an old and well established arcade operation. :)

I seriously doubt that anybody who operates for a living is unaware of bootlegs and unlicensed boards. Of the boards that I have seen in the wild, some are owned by two operators that I know and they are fully aware of the nature of the boards. I could see perhaps a guy who has a route of 3 machines parked in laundromats not knowing, but not someone who feeds their family with the earnings.
The simple difference in price between a $60 60-in-1 and a licensed board makes the distinction clear to all but the densest of people.
-
I only saw one of the multiboard machines in the video but there was an awful lot of redemption machines. They seem to be the bread and butter of what they now call arcades.
-
maybe in arcades but at least where i live they have transplanted dedicated games in most every other setting ie: laundromats, bowling alleys, hotels, bars, etc.
