Title: ELO 1545L drivers & calibration
Post by: MPTech on September 07, 2010, 12:39:03 pm
minor setback and re-start.

my ELO 1545L arrived on Friday and I hooked it up to my PC and when I rebooted, it found and loaded the drivers automatically.
unfortunately, I was hoping to run Win7, but couldn't get the the drivers / software I found on ELO's site to run.
No harm, I'm really more familiar with XP anyways and wanted to load TinyXP to improve performance, so this just forced my hand.

I loaded TinyXP, but haven't had an opportunity to load the drivers and calibrate it yet (calibration was the issue I was having with Win7).
I'm hoping to do this tonight when I get home. Until then........

In the software / driver pack I downloaded, there are 2 EXE files (SW601132_APR3.1.3.exe and XPU4.8.7b.exe), are those what I need to run?
What are they and does one of them contain the calibration software?

The User Guide says to run EloCd.exe for drivers (did I miss that one?) (the User Guide didn't identify the Calibration Software either)

guidance would be greatly appreciated (otherwise I can just do the trial&error approach, but I'd prefer a more informed approach).

the XPU4.8.7b.exe should be the install file. I believe the other is an additional .exe that the install file needs and will use it when it needs it. The drivers and calibration software should be a single package. Calibration is easy once installed. Make sure you install serial/usb or both if need be. If you have a USB, there is no need for serial, but after you plug in the ELO, it should tell you what kind you need. Also, when you plug it in, dont let windows install anything automatically. Turn off auto install in the control panel.

Well, something isn't correct. I could not find a calibration window / tool.

I installed the driver software, but when it finished, the window closed and I never recived an option to calibrate it.
I also didn't see any options to "automatically" install anything, there was a "default" option, is that what you meant?

I spent about an hour on it and even went into the folder it created and tried running a couple EXE files that I thought might be related. No help.

I'm wondering if I need to remove the USB and try installing just the monitor, then the drivers, THEN install the USB(??)
Originally, after I did the fresh install of WinXP, I connected the LCD and USB cable and it recognized it (is that what you meant by "Windows automated"?

Please help.

You can calibrate either via the elo icon in the lower right of your desktop (right click I think...then it's either a menu option or a tab within a window), or the ELO control panel in "control panel". You'll need your mouse until you do the calibration.

The only thing you should've installed was XPU4.8.7b.exe, and you should have the USB plugged in.

I seem to recall needing to reboot first on one or two occasions.

It's nothing more than that.

PS - XP might "recognize" the monitors touchscreen (it'll make some "boing" sounds, pop up an alert etc), but you can do little with it until you install the drivers.

ok, let me go back and have at it again tonite.

I could have sworn I executed XPU4.8.7b.exe, but I'll double check again.

I didn't see any icon in the lower right corner and I also looked in Control Panel and executed the ELO icon, but no luck.

I was getting frustrated last night and needed to step away for a bit anyways.  :banghead:

If you installed the drivers and no icon in the lower right corner, then you have either a bad touchscreen or usb interface. Try plugging into all the usb ports before giving up though, as when installed, it will only asign itself to one usb port and dedicate itself to only that one. When I plug a known good one in, the icon pops right up and the touchscreen works great.

I have one where I face the same issue, so I assume the usb interface or the touchscreen itself is bad, but at least I have the LCD part of it.

the touchscreen works, but it's opposite what I touch/move (ie: I touch lower/left, the mouse moves upper/right. like a double mirror)
I think the usb is working.
I'll try it again. I just got home from work and thought I'd read my email/posts first.

That's what happens when Windows "installs" the device initially...everything is upside down and backwards.  Now install XPU4.8.7b.exe

I'm still stumped.

I uninstalled Elo via Control Panel.
I un-plugged the USB.
I removed the ELO folder from Program Files.

I tried to execute  XPU4.8.7.b.exe  I received a message: XPU4.9.7.b.exe is not a valid win32 application.
So I executed SW601142_Apr3.1.3.exe, it seemed to install the drivers.
I rebooted the PC, then installed the USB cable.

But I couldn't find any Elo icons anywhere. (desktop, lower-right, start menu, etc.)

In c:\Program File I executed EloVa.exe  and got this message: no touchscreen installed.

In Control Panel I executed Elo Touchscreen and got this message: no touchscreen found.

Is this the latest version? I think I downloaded them from the Elo website last week, but I'm going to look again.

btw, I can move the cursor with my finger, so doesn't that mean the touchscreen IS installed??

If the cursor follows your finger you pretty much have the touchscreen installed.   Can you tap the screen and get a mouse click?

Well that's your problem. As I said above, the XPU... is the one you want. The SW... one you installed is not for your screen (or at least the one that I know works). Uninstall it, trash it and forget about it.

If XPU... is not running, then you got a bum (perhaps partial) download. Try a fresh copy off the ELO site. I'm on my mac right now so I can't test the executable for you.

Windows will let the cursor move with its default driver, but it doesn't work properly. Everything gets flip flopped. So while this does confirm the touch screen is working, he's got to install the correct drivers.

I just checked my flash drive which holds some of the files I installed on my jukebox PC. I too have XPU4.8.7.b.exe so that is the one I installed, and it does work. Redownload it.

BobA, yes I can move the cursor and tap it, although, as gryhnd said, everything is upside down and reversed. (so, I THINK the touchscreen hardware works(?)

I'll try a fresh download of the XPU4.8.7.b.exe  file.

went here: http://www.elotouch.com/Support/Downloads/dnld.asp (http://www.elotouch.com/Support/Downloads/dnld.asp)
and downloaded: XPU4.8.7b.exe

just to be double sure, I also went here: http://www.winmate.com/DownCenter/DownLoadCenter.asp?DownType=1701 (http://www.winmate.com/DownCenter/DownLoadCenter.asp?DownType=1701)
and again downloaded: XPU4.8.7b.exe

The good news is that both of these files are 4,410 kb.
I just checked the one I tried to run the past couple nights: 1,167kb.

This might be the problem!
I'll try it tonite!

Thanks Guys!
 :applaud:

That did it! I was so happy that resolved the problem last night.
Touch-screen and Freebox is so cool!

I had a group of guys over for a Poker party last night and everyone was very impressed with this setup.
Couple things to finish up on my project and snap some pictures, then I'll be sharing here.

Thanks Again!
