Title: more than 1 game in playchoice menu?

Is it possible to manage a playchoice ROM that makes the menu display more then one cart?
This, and megatech, are intended for multiple-game selection and the menu is kind of fruitless without the ability to select a title. It makes the whole menu & second screen annoying.

I searched here and there, haven't found a solution, please point me in the good direction.

What it sounds like you need is a front end that has the menu and gameplay at the same time.  That would be kinda cool because you can have it look like a play choice and play a bunch of MAME games and use the menu.

I've always wondered the same.

I recall back in the days of early Sega Genesis emulation someone discoverd that the "lock on" carts like Sonic and Knuckles could be used by simply tacking the rom data for the second card onto the end of the first one.

I wonder if something similar doesn't work for these systems. Just one large addressable space.

Would be nice for NeoGeo as well.

WhereEaglesDare I already have a frontend. The thing is, playchoice, megatech, megatouch and some neogeo titles are intended to work as multiple-cart on a single machine.

On playchoice 10, you hit your coins, select a game, and can play the game for a set period of time, or even change games for the same period of times. We actually have to press "game select" before being able to play, which makes no sense when the menu only let you choose one game, leaving 9 empty, non-selectable slots.


cotmm68030 could you look into how it was done for sega genesis? I wasn't aware of that one, but it seems like a good way to start looking. I wouldn't mind some legwork, and a custom resulting ROM, but if there's a way my kids can browse trough some of my playchoice titles on the MAME machine, I'll be quite happy with the result.
