Not an easy topic to search for, so I apologize in advance.
I have all of my roms and have downloaded a few emulator apps to run them. Problem is, I'd say 5% of the games play. I just get black screens in Maximus when I try to launch them.
I downloaded CLRMAMEPRO and from my understanding, this is the program to use to make all of my mame games work with the latest version of the emulator. Is there an easier process? I tried this and it still didn't correct a bunch of them.
Sooooooooo, I want to try to get this figured out. Just built my core2duo dedicated cab box and barely anything works. :banghead:

What if you try running them directly, with no frontend and default .ini settings?
ClrMamePro can't do anythng with your ROMs unless you have the updated files to rebuild them from. do you know what version of Mame your romset is for? If its an older one you could try downloading an older version of Mame.
However, if your Roms are missing/out of date Mame should tell you they are missing, you shouldn't just get a blank screen.

I'm running mame64 for example. A lot are greyed out or missing the chd files. Guess I'm missing the hd images even though I see them.
Is there a way to tell which version of mame should be ran from an actual rom?

on your last question, the answer would be no.
mame is built and updated by a team who focus more on the program and overall functionality of said program.
this does lead to rom issues and non-playable games , which is irritating.
but, i do agree with alot of the comments people make about mame.
its free , and if a certain game doesnt work , its not for us to complain . we should be happy with what we get.
i know there are at least 20 top titles i want to get working but its just not a possibility unless i use torrents ( which i refuse to use ) .
you say your using mame64 ? i dont know anything about this version , but if its 64 bit vs 32 bit , i would urge you to use a 32bit op system and
use a version of mame which is 32bit based. i could be mistaken by the information , but , so far , 80% of roms i want to use work. maybe its the
64bit issue thats causing problems.

What about playing non-CHD games?
