as many of you know i have a mace :the dark age cabinet, and i recently bought a little board very similar to the jpac, called JAMMASD,which has all of its functions plus more.i connect it to the controls,i plug in the pc..but the problem is that whenever i want to have diagonals, the joystock doesn't register them.i played street fighter and i was unable to fireballs etc,the character only moved in 4 way directions.the joystick though is 8 ways, that's how it says on the manual
here's the pic

I got through about the first half of the first line of your post and gave up trying to understand what the hell you are trying to say. Slow down a little and use some punctuation. :o ;D

seems pretty clear to me,so i'll explain it in points:
1)2 months ago:i bought an arcade cabinet,to use with my pc and mame emulator
2)i decided to buy a board,similar to the j-pac.
3)said board allows you to connect the cabinet's monitor, controllers and speakers to the pc
4)i connected the board to the pc for using the cabinet's joystick and buttons with the pc
5)on said pc i tried some emulators and some games, namely fighting games, that requires a lot of diagonal movements
6)the cabinet i bought,is mace:the dark age ,a fighting game, and has an 8 way joystick according to the manual
7)yet,when i connect such board to my pc(thus the cabinet's joysticks\controllers whatever the hell you want to call them),the diagonals movement doesn't work
8)its like the joystick is a 4 way one.i tried street fighter,i've chosen ken,i tried to do a fireball\hadoken,but it doesn't work.the character doesn't even jump forward or backward, only up.
9)so i was wondering if these joystcks i have on my cabinet, are really 8 ways or if they are 4 ways.and if there's a way in case to swtich between them.
Hope everything is clear now

Can you feel the stick physically go into the diagonals?
If you pull off the e-clip and look at the gate restriction (the hole), is it diamond, square or round in shape?
-
If you hit a diagonal, does the actuator hit two switches ?
If yes, then 8-way.
If no, then 4-way.

erhm..where and what is this e-clip?
-
It is at the bottom of your joystick. It holds the actuator (square white thing) in place.
-
Do you use a 3rd party PS/2->USB adapter with your JAMMA-ASD? I think that will break the multiple-buttons-at-once (i.e. 8-way) functionality of that board.

Yeah, looks like you've got some reading to do.
Here's a good start. (http://www.slagcoin.com/joystick.html) Lots of joystick information.

Follow Cheffo's post first, before you go dismantling your joystick for nothing.

I've kinda been waiting for him to do that ... doing anything else before that doesn't make sense.
