Title: Non standard controls?
Post by: SammyWI on September 04, 2010, 10:25:36 am
Anybody else use non standard controls set ups for fun / something different sometimes?  Normally, I like to set up my controls as close to the original as possible.  But sometimes, I'll use something different like using a spinner for left / right in Asteroids or RipOff instead of buttons.  Or to run Robotron on my laptop CP that only has one joystick, I'll use four buttons for the fire controls set up in an inverted T - like the typical WASD controls used for a FPS on a PC.  (Instead of just going downstairs where I have a two joystick CP.)

Anybody else do this?

How do you set asteroids for spinner control?

Would love to try that!

light gun games with a trackball still manage to be fun. Racing games with a spinner are doable too sometimes. (VR racing is mah fav)

I just set multiple controls for left and right in MAME.  When you set your left control input: First press the button you want for Left, then press enter again and spin the spinner left for the second left control input.  I'm not sure how many inputs you are limited to for one item in MAME, but I've done at least three.  Sometimes I switch back and forth in the middle of a game.
