Title: Easy question from a born-again noob
Post by: goldenageofarcade on September 04, 2010, 01:02:04 am
Hi Guys,
I've been out of the MAME community for about 6 years, prior to that I spent most of my free time for the better part of a year researching, planning and building my cabinets, which totalled 4.  For whatever reason, I had an inkling a few weeks ago to take a look at what's going on.  Many of my old links are no dead, which was discouraging, but BYOAC was still going strong, and I stumbled upon this forum, never having noticed it in the past when I was spending so much time learning about how to build my cabinets.

Anyway, I have been looking at sites still around, like Ultimarc, as well as a few hundred posts on this site, and I'm getting the impression that it's now possible to run multiple mouse inputs on a single machine at the same time without using analog+ (I think that's what it's called, it has been a while now).

Can someone tell me if this is the case?  If it is, I might have to start planning another cab for Super-Sprint type games, maybe with a second panel for dual track-ball games (well, to be honest, I can only think of Marble-Madness, but that game alone would warrant the build for me).

Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated!

I got a trackball USB, 9 pin serial mouse and lightgun that acts like a mouse

Sorry, what I'm getting at is having 2 inputs working at the same time, for example player 1 and player 2 trackballs in Marble Madness, or player 1 and player 2 spinners in Super Sprint, etc.  My newest cabinet is running Win2K, so I'm wondering if newer versions of Windows and/or MAME will allow such a thing?

Yes, windows 7 recognizes my trackball as a mouse, my normal mouse, and a gun as a mouse.

So if you bought 2 happ usb trackballs you could have 2 trackballs if your pc has 2 usb inputs

What they are saying is that it's so simple now that it's taken for granted.

There is an option in the MAME cfg file to enable multiple mice.

# CORE INPUT OPTIONS
#
coin_lockout              0
ctrlr                     X-Arcade
mouse                     1
joystick                  1
lightgun                  1
multikeyboard             1
multimouse                1
steadykey                 0
offscreen_reload          1
joystick_map              auto
joystick_deadzone         0.32
joystick_saturation       0.85

Wow, that's awesome!  I've been out of it too long...  I guess it's time to start collecting parts and software for a new build.  I was also pretty excited to find the restrictor plate reproductions for Tron sticks.  I guess my free time for the next 6 months is going to be pretty-well spoken for.

Thanks very much for the replies!
