Title: Help with slagcoin layout! My brain hurts!!
Post by: jimmy2x2x on September 02, 2010, 11:05:12 am
I have used the astro city slagcoin layouts many times, and its the one im most used to.

Usually i just print it out and use it as a direct drilling template, Im in the process of designing a new control panel and would like to import the measurements into sketchup - but cant seem to get it right!

Buttons 1-4 (top row, left to right)
Buttons 5-8 (bot row, left to right)

Im looking for relative measurements from the stick, or an already defined button

Button 1: from Joystick: X= 66mm , Y= -38.5mm -18.5mm
Button 2: from Button 1: X = 33mm, Y= -14mm
Button 3: from Button 2: X= 35.5mm, Y = 6mm
Button 4: from Button 3: X = 34mm, Y = 15mm
Button 5: from Joystick: X = 59mm, Y = 14mm
Button 6: from Button 5: X = 33mm, Y = -14mm
Button 7: from Button 6: X = 36mm, Y = 6mm
Button 8: from Button 7: X = 34mm, Y = 15mm

Do those look correct?

PITA isn't it?

I read engineering drawings on most days and I must admit I struggled with parts of it. I drew the array again in AutoCAD. If you give me an hour or so I'll re-dimension it for you.

Here ya go mate.

I couldn't find the drawing so I redrew it. I've used the center of the joystick hole as the datum and dimensioned the distances in X on the drawing. To keep the drawing uncluttered I put the distances in Y in a table. Its not technically correct but it should be easier to read than a hundred dim lines all over the place :)

I actually prefer the 'american' style so to speak...though I have mine shifted slightly:

I'm pretty sure I am in a minority with this, however. :)

i like mine all over the place  ::) i have 1 on the side of the cabinet towards the back of the machine (so when you reach for it, you lose sight of the monitor) and one on the bottom (you have to tilt the machine back to hit it.) then some buttons on the CP that don't even do anything.  :lol

i'm thinking of instead of a joystick, just laying out buttons in random places for different directions. i'll put one on the bottom of the marquee that is for up.... then you can kind of hit it with your fist like mario ... what do you all think?

i think i'm a retard.... sorry mentally............ challenged?

I do too and if you look at the CP thread, we're not the only ones.   Street Fighter II has a very recognizable layout to guests that play my cabinet, making it less "complicated" to those who don't regularly play games.  But everyone's MMV.   It's all a matter of preference.

Well my name is David too DaveMMR so maybe its just the name? :)

I see oodles of cp's with 7 buttons where the 7th button is, as best as I can determine, only used to give a 4 button row for NeoGeo...that's why I like the slanted 6 button config...it lets me do that with only 6 buttons. :)
