Here is my setup
3.0gHz PC with 1 gig RAM
40GB hard drive (I know I need to upgrade this)
Windows XP
X-Gaming Tank Stick
24 in. LCD monitor (not that the monitor makes a difference)
What version of MAME do you recommend? I know X-Gaming suggests MAMEPlus!, but I am not sure what is good for my configuration. I am currently using MAME (not sure of the version) and it seems to be working ok, but there are still a bunch of games that are either not loading or not playing correctly.
Also, when I upgrade the drive, do you suggest an internal drive or can I get away with a external USB?
Thanks in advance,
GB

Read this thread. (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=64298.0) It will outline how to properly patch MAME for your own system. It's not recommended to just DL someone else's, unless they've done a 'vanilla' update, however, it's so simple (hell, *I* did it) that you should try it yourself. (You can even 'customize' it to run better on your own machine, so they tell me.)

I'm a noobie and was able to recompile my 139u1 version... It got rid of the nag screens and also gave it the ability to save high scores for whatever roms support it...
I'll never run another version of mame without this...
