I want to make a custom art marquee for my project (in due course), but in order to have it illimunated I'm not sure about things like translucency of the ink or whether that kind of thing matters much etc?
My crude plan was along the lines of doing my own artwork in photoshop, then printing this with a normal home printer onto OHP clear slide material, the applying that to clear acrylic in front of a cold cathode tude.
Would this approach work at all or would it look awful because the ink used from a normal inkjet cartridge would not let the right amount of light through to make the artwork light up at all/properly etc? Sorry if this is basic stuff but I had a look through the FAQ in this section and didn't see anything that would address this.

Thanks for the offer but I prefer to learn/do as much stuff myself as is possible, partly to keep costs low, but more because I like doing stuff myself.
Plus being in the UK I'd guess the postage wouldn't be cheap.

The main problem with printing your own is you'll have trouble finding a decent material that can be lit properly. The amount you'll spend trying to do it right could wind up being more than just ordering one.
