Hi guys,
I'm a decent way through making my modular control panel (velcro variant), and I've hit a point where I'm stuck, I've two questions if anyone has a minute?
1. For my pole position wheel and my Star Wars yoke, I ended up cutting my panels as if they would lie flat, then I cut 2 right triangles for each. The panels will be glued to the triangles, so as to give these two controls a 60 degree elevation to make them more natural to use. Problem is, I can't figure out how to get pressure on these things to glue them since the triangles make the clamps impossible to use. Anyone have any suggestions?
2. I'm using 1/2" MDF for my panels, but the bolts for my star wars yoke are only 1/2". I'm hesitant to route out a 1/4" of the material, first because I fear it won't hold with only 1/4" supporting the weight, second because I fear I lack the skill, and third because I'm so new at routing I have no idea how to do it. Is there any option other than routing, like a way to extend the bolts?

Rope or twine. You could also try those ratcheting straps. Put the strap over the triangle point and then the other side.

IMHO I would stay away from MDF on control panels. I say this because the control panel is the most abused part of the cabinet. Also people will push and pull on the steering wheel and yoke. Since the yoke and wheel will be sticking off the control panel, it will increase the force someone applies (they will act like a lever) when they push or pull on them. Second, buy longer bolts and a can of spray paint to paint the visible part of the bolt to match.

For the clamping you could take another angled piece at the same angle, invert it on top so you have a flat surface to clamp. Applying the clamp would make the two pieces try to slide along the angle so something to prevent them from moving like maybe a square piece clamed next to the 2 angled pieces should let you clamp it to the board.
