Title: Space Firebird Mini ideas
Post by: paigeoliver on August 08, 2003, 12:01:59 am
Ok. It looks like I am getting stuck with a Space Firebird mini. (Externally complete, no innards).

I can't decide what to do with the thing. The control panel is on a massive slope (like 70 degrees), and it uses a huge 2-way joystick, and 2 buttons.

I ALREADY have a dedicated 4-way vertical cabinet, which also nicely plays 2-way games.

I would just emulate the original game, but I seem to remember it using the Donkey Kong samples or something dumb like that.

Switching over to an 8-way would require a whole new panel, because it has a HUGE stick that goes back and forth in a slot.

I wonder. Does Mame HAVE to have the correct samples. Or could I get some more proper Space sounding samples.

Or, could someone check the game real quick and report back to me on the sound, I don't have it here at work to check.

I dont have any samples for space firebird but it functions with sound emulation.  The warning says that sound emulation is not 100 percent accurate.  Could not find any samples available for space firebird.  INfo on the game says that sound still has to be completed.

Ok, maybe it was a different game that used the Donkey Kong samples.

Does it sound OK, or is the sound bad, or mostly missing?

Sounded ok while I played it but it was only for about a minute and I have nothing to compare to as I have never played the real game.

Ok, in that case I can go ahead with plans to "dedicate" it to just Space Firebird. I doubt many people REALLY remember what the game sounds like. It isn't too common.

I'll just remove Space Firebird from the Artic Mini Mame's game list. (Since I have multiple mame cabinets, I try to not have any duplicate games between them).

I might possibly consider moving all the 2-way vertical titles over to it.

I am going to use one of those "Super Ghetto" encoders that are on ebay for $10 for this project. I hope it works well.

Egad. This is also going to mean that I am going to have 4 freaking Mame cabinets, and only 3 original games.

Artic Mini - Vertical 4-way
Amazing Mame - Horizontal 8-way
Space Firebird - vertical 2-way
Cherry Master Mame - Horizontal, 8 or 9 swappable panels, including a trackball one, a spinner one, a steering wheel, and analog stick, a 4-way panel, a Terminator 2 panel, an Asteroids panel, a Defender panel, and possibly a spring loaded golfclub panel.
