My wife got a job offer (YES!) and overtime just got approved where I work (YES!).
So tongiht I am ordering everything. My only question though is in regards to the u360s. What is there movement like without a restrictor plate? Circular, rectangular, etc?
I wasn't going to use a restrictor plate but thinking about it, I might get the 4-way/8-way plate and use the 8 way setting. Or decide later that I want it.
Pros/cons of no restrictor versus restrcitor?
-
Circular without anything.
I use the circular restrictor. The throw is a bit too much without it. I also recommend the stiffer springs.
-
Yes, the stiffer springs are being put on. Just seems to be the way to go from what everyone says.
Since the default is circular, I will be getting the 4/8 way plate to use in 8 way mode.
Much appreciated!
-
Well, the default may be circular, but it's a very long throw. I tried the square plates and didn't like them. The nice thing about the U360 is not having to rotate a plate to 4 or 8 way.

I suppose that if the 8 way setting bothers me that I could always consider the circular attachemnt. I think the 4/8 way palte and the circular are sold as one item.
Are the 8 way plates to restrictive? Or just to restricive in analog mode?
-
When you buy the circular, you get a 4/8 way with it, which means you have to buy two sets. Kinda pricey, but worth it.
The 8-way is too restrictive to me, at least, but only because I'm used to the round feeling of the circular (awesome for games like Robotron and Sinistar).

Just another opinion on the 360 restrictors for you.
The standard feel (with no plates) is buttery smooth, but as Ginsu indicates, the throw feels way to long (to the point where you think you could snap it off it you really pushed hard.
I've got the circular and 4/8 way plates, and I am (for now) using the 4/8 way so I can occasionally flip it to dedicated 4-way for a DK session, etc.
I'll admit the throw feels a little restrictive in comparison to having no plate in there, but you get used to it. I now like the short throw, works great for SF2, etc.

Oh and +1 for the stiff springs.

You got standard or long shafts? I can't imagine these sticks with no restrictor AND long shafts!
-
Standard - I actually didn't think you could get long shafts for these....I remember asking about it when I was going to bottom mount them.
-
I bottom mount mine with standard shafts and have no problem with them.
-
Yea mine was a longer story (no pun intended) - my CP was fairly thick when the plexi was incorporated. In addition I had some Sanwa JLF's on P3/P4 that had shafts with different lengths and I wanted them to all be the same.
I ended up bottom mounting them after routing a mount plate hole that was recessed a 1/4" or so and offset the JLF's with a different depth so that from the top, all 4 sticks are the same height...and you'd only know that P3/P4 aren't U360's by hearing/feeling the clicking of the microswitch.
-
Maybe I'll grab the longer shafts also. That way if I use hte restrictor plate, I get a little bit more movement. I'm surface mounting BTW, but there is still a recess and plexy on top.
-
Just this guy's opinion - but dont' get long shafts, especially if you're top mounting. Mine are mostly undermounted and STILL have lots of shaft. Long shafts on a top mount will look like you're operating a tank!
-
Yeah, just use standard on a top mount.
-
I agree with the comment about the shafts. Mine are bottom mounted, and I got the long shafts.
IMO, I don't need the long shafts. The standard are just fine.
Also IMO, Ultimarc needs to sell an even stiffer spring than the ones they have. I got the stiff springs, but still feel like my U360s are too loose.

See, and I think there needs to be an in-between. I think they're a tad stiff at times. :lol

Nod, there might be some variety in the springs that are being sold (different suppliers etc?)

Well, the cabinet is going to Battlezone themed .....

That's funny, I was going to write that also. I'd like some seriously stiff springs in there myself, as I also find them a little light.
