Title: Inserting E-Ring!
Post by: AnechoicJinx on August 07, 2003, 03:45:34 pm
I'm trying to set up my new competition joysticks, except I cannot for the life of me get this e-ring to fit and lock everything into place.  Is there a simple way to do this?  ??? >:(

I think they were invented by people with 3 hands.

I push down on the actuator or whatever is on the end of the joystick until the ring on the joystick handle is exposed.  I then place the eclip partway into the groove.  You may need needle nose pliers to do this.   After it is partway in the groove I use the needle nose pliers to apply pressure against the back of the E and seat it into the groove.

The hard part seems to be placing pressure on the actuator of the joystick so that the groove is exposed and then keeping pressure on until the E clip is partially in the groove.

Good Luck

So tell me... how many of them went flying across the room never to found again before you finally attatched the little sucker ? ;D Snap ring pliers work best but as already stated needlenose pliers work and people are more likely to have a pair of them  layin around. What also helps is if somebody pushes the joystick shaft from the top while you're pushing down on the actuator to reveal the ring slot. Glad you got em on. :)

Oopps, I forgot that joysticks use e-clips instead of horseshoe clips so snap ring pliers won't be worth a $hit. Listen to Boba. He knows what he's talking about unlike me. :-X

I just pressed it on there hard using a flat head screw driver so it wouldn't hurt my hand. Us tough Texans don't need no fancy stinkin' tools to get the job done!

(Did I mention I can cut a t-molding groove with my teeth?)

My e-ring went flying and I spent over an hour trying to recover it.  I eventually found it and it had not traveled far.  The e-ring was inbetween the trackball and mounting plate.

It was not a good night.

how about using some threads (is that what you call ?? very fine string....) and tie it to the e-clip before you're going to clip it on....

so, if it flies off.... you have a long tail to trace it back.....
(after its on, simply cut the thread......)
better than spending an hr looking for it.....

but of course.... lazy as I am... I always takes my chances....
hee hee....  :P ;)
