Title: Storing pinball machines
Post by: Flake on August 23, 2010, 10:26:29 am
So I sold my house and am in the process of packing things away into storage while my new house is being built.  My plan is to move the pinball machines to my parents house.  Would it be better to set them up or leave them folded up?  My parents will not play them.  Is there something in a pinball machine that will suffer from being in a folded up state for 4-5 months?

Well space isnt a concern at their house.  I just wanted to make sure I'm not going to hurt anything by leaving it in a folded up state for 4-5 months.

Thanks

Depending on the game, remove the pinballs out of it. Only a handful of pinballs actually are held in the game well when vertical and/or being moved. I've heard one to many hit the playfield glass as they jump the trough. Other than that you should be good.

If the games have batteries make sure they are new.  This is to avoid corrosion and keep any settings and high score while not being plugged in.

I heard on rec.games.pinball that the best way to store your pinball machines is to drop them off along with your kegerator @ PW79's house

He doesn't smoke, doesn't have pets or kids & although he is a dbag your toys will be well taken care of in a clean dry climate controlled game room (mimicking their natural habitat & with their own kind).

There is that whole trusting a stranger you only met 3 times though, hmmmm why not keep em @ the realtor's  ;D

PBW79 - feel free to store my games at your house.  All I ask is that you replace all my SWT bulbs with LEDs and give it a good wax job  ;D

I would actually rather store my game at someone's house that has knowledge on how to maintain machines than to just fold them up and let them sit. It's good for a pinball machine to be played as long as it's cleaned and maintained regularly and properly. If I was going to be away from my machines for an extended period of time I'd probably move my machines into a friend's home and just let him play them as long as he maintained them.

Well, can't offer my place unfortunately :(

In all seriousness, pull all the pinballs and leave it folded up.

If it's going to be there a while it's your call about the batteries, either put in new ones or pull them out.  But don't leave old ones in place, that's for sure.
