I just created a new user 'Cabinet' on my XP (home) setup with a view that I would set the shell for that user as my FE...
Now the user I created does not seem to exist any more(but I know it does, if I try creating 'Cabinet' again it says so).
I haven't a clue what I've done - anyone?
Sorry for the OT :-[

Do you use tweakui to auto login? That'll bypass the login screen completely regardless of how many users you have. Just a thought.

So you're saying when your list of names pops up on the login screen the "Cabinet" is not there?

Exactly. It was there the first time, and it auto-logged in, but now it is not there (I didn't delete it!).
HC: I didn't know there was a TweakUI for XP, I'll give it a look, thanks.
I just wanted to setup a user for 'working' and a user that shelled MAMEWAH...

A couple of things to check. The icon to that login might be corrupted or missing. Change the icon for it int he control panel.
Also there is a "keep login hidden" checkbox burid somewhere in the settings. If you use the 2000/nt style login dialog box you can log in to it that way, just not in the purdy new xp login screen.

Do you mean in Control Panel > User Accounts? It doesn't show up there either. ???

Have you tried manually removing the account and then remaking it? If it doesn't show up on the user accounts in the cp, go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>System Tools>Local Users and Groups>Users. Then just right-click on the name and delete it. If the name is not listed there then you might have a bit of a problem....

No I meant turn off fast switching so you are prompted with a traditional user/pass login box upon startup.
Anyway try what helios said. If you can't get it to show up there I can probably help, just email me about it.

I don't even have 'Local Users' or 'Group' under the System Tools heading...
I had a thought tho, I have disabled some services, so presumably that could affect this...no worries I'll try to see what I need to re-enable.
HC: I tried turning off the fast switching but no difference :(
It's not a massive deal anyway, my 'normal' user works fine as before, it just bugs me a little having stuff not work right.
Thanks for the help guys

When your at the screen with the logins for the other users, Press Ctrl-alt-del twice. This will bring up a logon screen see if you can login as cabinet. If so you could use tweakui to auto login cabinet every time.
I think xp may only show 3 or 4 users on the welcome screen. You could tell xp not to use the welcome screen and use a normal logon box. You could also create another user like "cab" and copy the profile from "cabinet" to "Cab" .
