Very limited space on my CP. I've looked through the ROM databases, but what I really need is a list of games that are on the list with 3 buttons and not those with 2, and I cant seem to find such a search.
I can then pick through the list and see if there are any games I'm bothered about and take it from there...
Any clues?

metal slug and NBA jam!!!! Well maybe not 'classic' classics, but still unmissable

Golden Axe
Many Fighters
Consider the 24mm Seimitsu buttons. They are really cute, and you might be able to stuff a 2x3 button layout in just a bit more space then 2 reg buttons require.

Is your joystick going to be limited to 4-way?
-
Restricting yourself to two buttons will definitely make the cp look tidier.
You might be able to get away with setting up the MAME key mappings so that pressing the two buttons together simulates pressing the third button. This compromise only really works acceptably on games where the third button is used only occasionally. But it might be preferable to having a third button that will only be used on a handful of games.

Romlister! Thanks. I was looking at the web based ones.

Its a Sanwa, and is switchable.

I actually bought some of those for P1 & P2 buttons. I can fit 3 fullsize on, but didnt want to add clutter if it was only a few games I'll be missing out on. Part of my restriction is the P166 machine at the heart of the project so that limits the list further.

Funny you should say that. Just got back from a campsite that had a game room, they had a dusty metal slug cab in the corner, so I sneaked a go whilst the kids were playing on table football (there's some sort of wierd turn around there). I'd never played it before :-[ and it was fun, but I noticed it had 3 buttons. Hence my question!

Thats a good idea. I hadnt considered that.

Punchout!
I have this game on my vertical cab which only has 2 buttons, but I get around it by assigning button 3 to the start button. You can assign multiple inputs in MAME. So I have the start button set to start the game and be button 3 (uppercut).

(Oh wait, that's me.)

Well I love Blasteroids and that need 3 buttons. Also think of all the NeoGeo games that use just 3 out of the 4 buttons...
-
you're missing out on VANGUARD. Can't you add 1more extra for the sake of this game ? and arrange the buttons

Set MAME to
Button 1 = Z
Button 2 = X
Button 3 = Z+X
Two button config. ;D

I came to post that very same title.
It could be played with 2 buttons, the only thing that really would be affected would be entering a name.

And your score.

Not our scores ;) We can mash a single button fast enough to get the 9m45cm long jumps and 9:45 100m dashes. Only thing that gives us grief is the javelin throws. Can't ever get above 84m
-
It's actually much quicker to just use one button on T&F. I'm up to 8.90 100m dash and 9.53m long jump ;D
Cheers,
Hewskie
