Title: Coin Door Help
Post by: AzureKnight on August 21, 2010, 12:18:41 am
I am completely new at this and trying to learn more about the coin door process.  This all may be a no-brainer but I would rather ask with the risk of looking dumb than hit a snag later.  I'm sorry if some of these have been asked before, I spent about a half hour in the search function like I always do before asking any question, but I just couldn't locate what I am looking for.

I'm looking to install a functioning coin door in my cabinet.

I've looked over the following:
http://www.happ.com/coindoors/40000800.htm (http://www.happ.com/coindoors/40000800.htm)

I have several questions:
1.  What is a harness?  Just the wiring from the coin door to the board (in my case an IPac4)?  Can this just be wired up like buttons and joysticks?  Or do I have to buy something special?

2.  Is there any need for a cashbox assembly?  It would seem to me that any open container to catch the tokens would be best suited for my needs as I wouldn't have to unlock it.

3.  What about the mechanics?  Does this contain everything I need?  There are various parts listed below (for replacements?), will I need any other mechanical parts to make this work?

4.  What about tokens, I've seen a few threads on here about modifying coin collectors to accept certain tokens.  Is this something I should expect to have to do?  Or can I just buy a door (mechanical insert?) that accepts the tokens I plan on using?

5.  Is there another/better coin door option out there that is recommended?

Thanks in advance for all your help.  I'm really glad I found this site BEFORE ordering/building anything!

Shouldn't need any harness, the coin slots connect to the I-Pac no differently than any other button.

Don't need a cash box, can rig up anything to catch the coins I suppose.

I believe the doors come with everything you need to mount them, at least mine did.

The doors come with mechs to accept American Quarters, anything else requires modification or a different mech.

Happ coin doors are pretty much plug and play. Just treat the coin microswitches as you would an actual "coin" button. The lights can be powered off of your yellow +12 volt pc power supply. As far as tokens go, you can get a "coin mech" for a specific size(diameter) token you are trying to use. Most Happ coin doors come pre assembled with a .25 cent mechs installed. Swapping these mechs is really simple. For a coin bucket, alot of times I just use a tupperware container or something similar. If you don't feel comfortable with it, PM me and I could walk you through the process.

Thank you all!  That is exactly what I wanted to know.  I'm not too worried about any of that, it all sounds easy enough.
