Can I use a joystick for a mouse? I know where question but wondering
-
Use a joystick instead of a mouse in what?
-
for a MAME machine.... i want to do a fighting theme cab next but dont want to track ball in the middle but wanted to know if its possible.
-
I would just build it w/o the trackball and use joysticks/buttons
to control menu options and so on. No need for a mouse.
-
Or just use google:

that is what im looking for.... i love this site LOL

Anyone use this app? Does it conflict with the FE, or can you set it to only work when you aren't in the FE?
-
I believe XPadder can also do joystick->mouse mapping. If all you want is to map joystick to mouse movement you can even go as simple as using a script. Check out the AHK/AI forums for examples of this exact process.
It all depends on what you need to do as to which program works best.

are you trying to do this so you can play trackball/spinner games with a joystick? or just for admin purposes with windows? if you are planning on playing trackball games, you won't get a very good experience and is probably not worth your time. if you are doing it for admin purposes, why not just get a wireless mouse and tuck it away when you dont need it?
-
I dont want to use the trackball at all... I just dont want to have a mouse sitting behind or under the control panel... would be much cooler to just have a joystick there to run the mouse controls for windows
-
ahh, thats cool. i was just hoping you weren't planning on trying to play centipede with a joystick or something like that.

SHORT: If you need to worry about mouse control for Windows in your arcade machine, you're doing it wrong. ;)
LONG: If you're machine is set-up properly, you should need a keyboard/mouse close to never. For those few times you do need it, just hook up a cheap-o mouse (or even just use a keyboard). I think having a program running in the background wasting whatever cycles it utilizes, however minuscule, is resources better spent on the gaming.
