When I first bought my tv for my cabinet, I noticed that the screen kept going lighter and darker. Nothing too serious though. I eventually had someone come out to have a look. He soldered some loose connections and then the tv didn't want to switch on. Anyways, got the tv back last night. Working again, but the flickering is still there. It's actually worse than before.
Even if I switch it to component with the pc off (just a black screen), I can clearly see it going lighter and darker. And if I tap lightly on the screen from the front, it goes brighter with some fine horizontal lines coming up briefly. Is it maybe the tube? Can it be fixed or should I rather just look for a new tv?

could be the tube .
however , 1st check the screen grid line and associated paths on the neck board.
possible dirty/loose contacts in the crt socket. dirty spark gaps - if it has them.
poor connections on the flyback...
a gentle tap or 2 while observing the screen may lead you to the area of issue .
