Title: Noob with a new cabinet with questions
Post by: bcgamer on August 10, 2010, 02:15:04 pm
hi guys

been a lurker on here for awhile, just took the plunge and now have a small 2 player mame cabinet, was an old shinobi cab.  I'm running mame, and have a few questions.

  1.  How can you tell if the mame rom will work?  very frustrated with 150 roms and only 20 or so will work.  Just navigate Mame32 and look in their database?

  2.  Using Maximus arcade as my front end, project64 n64 emulator the video doesn't work?  Tried to go into settings but can't really change anything.

  3.  I guess a question about all roms i guess is how do you guys go about checking to see if the roms will work before you bring into your system??  Seems like a huge waste of time  downloading rom after rom and getting nowhere.  Loving this arcade stuff tho, just want some advice how to streamline my time.

looking fwd to being a contributing member of the boards

thanks!!

1. Get the right roms for your MAME version number.

2. Dunno.

3. Download a torrent of all games for your MAME version and avoid the one-at-a-time mess.

If you are using 137 roms then download 137 MAME and install it from www.mamedev.org (http://www.mamedev.org).  Then take the zip files, yes keep them in the zip format, and put them in the rom folder in the MAME install.

Run Mame and it will list some roms in random order.

Is this what you are already trying?  If this doesn't work there is a chance that even though you just downloaded them, the files may be bad, has happened to me several times.  Try another site.

Hmm... BCGamer, you aren't Canadian are you?
