Even if he had just left half of that in a freakin e saver account he could have blown the other half on all the drugs and women he could get and still have all those winnings now. Don't people like this make you think 'just give it to me, buddy. I'll look after it for you'...

Just goes to show, the worst thing in the world for many people is too much money.
Yeah, 17mil. He could have been setup for life.

Personally, I wouldnt say that. Id be just fine with the 17 mil... doing responsible and
creative / constructive things.
Id bet the worst thing he had was crappy parents.

Why blame the parents?

xiaou2 is probably right. If you have parents who aren't responsible with money, and you aren't exceptional in any way yourself, then there's a good chance you aren't going to be responsible with money either. Thing is, 17 million means you can have your cake and eat it too. You only need half a brain, and tell all those 'friends' you suddenly have to go and ---fudgesicle--- off ;)
-
You can blame anyone you want. End the end, +he+ won the money. It was enough to set himself up for life quite comfortably, and instead he blew it. He could have done any number of other things with it, but he blew it.
His parents, his uncle, a sour relationship, heck there could have been any number of things that contributed to his decisions to blow it.
But my point was that for many people, having a ton of money dumped in their lap is one of the worst things that can happen.
However, can't say I wouldn't mind finding out!
-
Actually, its less to do with being responsible with money... and more to do with
his emotional state.
People who have to drink like fish every waking moment, for example,
are people with deep seated internal problems.. usually a result of parental
abuses... such as verbal & or physical abuses.
These people are irrational, because they are a mess. The guy would have
easily blew his $300 work-week paycheck the same way he blew 17 million.
-
Yup. Couldnt agree more.
Anyone else notice in the article they spelled "tires" with a "y"?
-
I don't think its valid to blame their parents...
some people might be just fine when they're poor.... (or when they stayed at middle class..)
but when they suddenly got rich...
they simply cannot handle it... and whoever approach with ideas / advise...
might suddenly look very suspicious like they want a piece of the cake...
(which they might...)
I think it takes a lot of self control to handle a large sum of $$ fallen on your lap..
but like everyone else, I would like to try also. lol...
------
I believe I read it somewhere, if you own a gun, you chance of getting shot will immediately be tripled.
and you got a higher chance of bankrupt when you hit the lotto.
theses are just statistics. go figure...
-
But reports claim the millionaire had an appetite for alcohol, drugs and women
Do you think he Acquired these habits as soon as he got rich?
(and to such a deep degree)
Do you think he couldnt / wouldnt check his bank account every once a month and
see entire millions missing? (and still not care?)
Im not saying that given the tools to achieve anything he wanted didnt play into
factor. But it wasnt the money that did him in. It was his internal issues. Had he
been raised a strong person on the inside... he would have Cared about his
mansion (and himself for that matter), instead of Trashing it with his Doped up buddies.
He would have at least tried to be a little responsible.
Plenty of people lose their Lotto winnings, but many do so due to poor accounting.
Nearly my entire fathers side of the family are alcoholics... my Uncle even did
(maybe still doing) hardcore drugs. The guy makes good money, but has trouble
paying the bills because he drinks & drugs it all down the drain. Why? Because
his long since deceased alcoholic father, mentally abused the entire family. (then drank
himself to early death, at about age 32) My uncle cant handle life, because of the
way he was raised to deal with life... and his answer is basically the same as his
fathers answer was. They dont care, they destroy themselves.
Given 17 mil, my uncle would do the same exact things this guy did. But not because
of the money. Because of who he already Is... and chooses to be.
I could give you 9 out of 10 examples where the parents were at fault for their
childrens mental health problems. In fact, watch some of those "Intervention"
shows on TV, and tell me you dont think someone in the family is not responsible
for how their child acted when they became an adult.
If you dont see it, its only because you dont want to see it. However, its the truth
weather you want to believe or not.

In case anyone was wondering just how set up for life one can be with $17 million consider this: if you just invest it all and make a 5% return on it you would have an income of $850k per year. Without ever touching the $17 million. $850k per year until the end of time. The last I checked $850k can buy a lot of drugs and women in a year. And anybody with $17 million can probably do better than 5% too.

Enough with your stories about people in far off lands who mis-spell aluminum, no one believes you.

No way really shmokes?!? I didnt know that! :P I thought it was just a spelling error because I have never seen tires spelled that way. The rubbish/garbage is totally different. Same thing with balls/bollocks. Just an observation. That was a poor attempt to be funny, but a success at trying to be a bag of cream fillled twinkie fluid or whatever the auto sensor says...

"Alla Minnie yum" is no way to refer to a metal, I prefer "Aww Lew mah numb"
$17m = $7m after lump sum = $3.5m after taxes = he is still a fool

Don't be so quick to berate this guy. His friend's internet gambling business could make him an instant millionaire again and then who will be laughing?
:P

What he means is if you looked outside your borders a little more, you would know that 'tyre' is how it is spelt. It's something you should just know...
-
Better to have won and lost than to never have won at all?
For sure. It still makes me cry though...

Don't mistake me, though. Obviously they're spelling it wrong . . . :)
