Title: Want to see one of Jack's (ArcadesRFun) latest builds? Presenting... Saintscade!
Post by: Silly Burrito on August 09, 2010, 03:57:30 pm
Most of you on here know Jack from ArcadesRFun, and I wanted to show one of his newest creations. Thanks to Jack for working with me these last eight months. I'm very happy with the result, and wanted to share it with everyone here.

I know this is BYOAC, but man, I just haven't been able to find the time to build my own, even when I have a kit (The Tigercade sits lonely, waiting to be assembled). So, back in December, after reading a lot of good things about his work, I contacted Jack about building the Saintscade. It was just going to have a simple Saints theme, with the Saints logo on the control panel. But then, the Saints started winning, and winning…and eventually we kept pushing it back thinking “What if?” Well, we all know that the Saints won, so we decided to make my arcade reflect that. The artwork took longer than normal, but it finally arrived today, and I just can’t stop smiling.  ;D

With that, I present….the Saintscade. Super Bowl XLIV Champion Edition.

Saintscade - Super Bowl XLIV Champion Edition (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4TAlqGjTNY#ws)

I’ve got various memorabilia from the Super Bowl all over this. It’s got my ticket, my program, and some of my favorite pictures from my trip there, along with other Saints logos. It’s built to play almost any game that can exist, for the most part (still have to work out how to get Steam working with Hyperspin, but I've got time to play with that). I have a bunch of other things from the Super Bowl, but this (along with my actual framed ticket/poster collage) is something that I’ll always have to remember that great day.

Just wanted to share, and thought that some of you might like to see it. Thanks again, Jack!

At it's widest, I just measured it to be a little over 48.5 inches.

Looks nice!  That's a big CP!  How is the widescreen monitor?  Do games run in their original aspect ratio?

For the most part, the artwork takes care of the ratio. I'll admit to not being a purist, so I wouldn't know if it was slightly off here or there, but it's definitely playable. The widescreen monitor is working great so far. No complaints at all.

Sounds like it's being narrated by Kenneth from 30 Rock.  ;D

So what games need 6 buttons for players 3 & 4 ??

I was thinking more emulators than anything else, or just a more comfortable configuration for games like NBA Jam and the like, while still having the Neo Geo layout.

Nice job! Did you configure Hyperspin. Been trying myself but gave up after a few tries needed to get back to playing

No, Jack configured it, but there's still some kinks I have to work out with the trackball and spinner. It doesn't appear to be that difficult, though.

So do you have an intercom system setup when players 3 and 4 want to talk to each other?

Hehe - just busting on you; that panel is huge!

I hope you don't plan on moving it anywhere, ever!

:)

Nah, we just have some tin cans and a string. Works perfectly. :)

Surprisingly enough, with the wheels on the bottom, it's really easy to move. There's a nice hole cut at the bottom of the back for the power cord (and a network cable too if you want), so you just grab those cables, and push back until it's in place. The way he has the control panel is nice too, just two screws and you're connected. I wouldn't want to move it around all the time, but in a pinch, it won't be difficult at all. It was much harder to move the NBA Jam.

I still can't believe the NFC Championship game against my vikings. That was brutal. It was destiny though, congrats to the Saints and to you for the sweet Super Bowl cab!
