I know that this has been discussed at verbatim here, but I have seen lots of conflicting messages about this stuff.
tell me is the following true:
LEXAN
- easy to cut with routers, jigsaw, handtools
- soft
- scratches easy
LUCITE
- cracks,breaks easily
- not easy to cut with routers, jigsaw, handtools
- does not scratch easy

this topic is beatin to death.
lucite is a lesser 'grade' of lexan. but still above plexi.
plexi scratches like a cheap whore that dropped her quarter for the phone.

I think Lucite is actually made my a different company than Lexan. Lexan is virtually always a better choice unless you're using thick plexi or lucite for monitor glass. Even then, though, real glass would be better. For ALL other applications, Lexan is best.

Oh boy here we go again ::) When people start mixing up brand names with the actual TYPE of plastic everybody gets confused.
Lucite and plexiglass are BOTH brand names of acrylic.
Lucite is made by "Lucite International"
Plexiglass is made by "Dupont"
Lexan is a brand name of polycarbonate.
Lexan is made by "General Electric" (plastics division)
Acrylic is harder but also brittle. It is more scratch resistant and also clearer then both glass and polycarbonate makeing it a perfect candidate for the monitor shield. (You can also order it smoked which really looks nice)
Polycarbonate is softer and scratches easier then acrylic BUT its much easier to drill,cut bend and whatever else you want to do with it. Perfect for covering a control panel since its so easy to drill through and also will never crack when friends are button mashing and pounding on your cp when they loose a life. ;D
I hope this puts an end to the confusion.

Oh teh, Amra is right. Lucite international also makes their brand name of polycarbonate called "Lucite Tuf" There are tons of brandnames for both of these types of plastics so it can get confusing especially when the tarts at Home Chepo start chiming in when they most likely don't know the differences between the two and end up throwing more fog into the cloud of confusion. Better off going to a glass shop where they know what they're talking about. If you want smoked acrylic or polycarbonate you'll have to go to a glass shop anyway because no home improvement warehouses carry it. You now have the facts NOW GET OUT IN THAT GARAGE AND START BUILDING YOUR DREAM ! :D ;D :D
