Title: New builder needs help with parts
Post by: Psycho on August 07, 2010, 01:59:10 pm
I'm planning to build a bartop arcade styled after the Weecade but with a few differences.

First I'll be using a larger screen, either 19 or 22 inch. I'll also try to place 6 buttons per player and a trackball.

I'll first be starting with the CP since that part will no doubt be larger than the plans available and will thus change the plans for the rest of the cabinet once I start working on it.

Here are the parts that I consider using for the PC, CP and rest of the cabinet. If you have any suggestions please feel free to post.

PC:
Dual Core CPU
3GB Ram
ATI 4350 512MB LP
500GB HDD
Windows XP

Quote
CP:
2x Ultrastik 360
12x Buttons
1x minipac
1x Utrak
1x spinner (optional)

Quote
Cabinet:
1x Kiosk Audio Amplifier (from Haap)
2x 2" 4W Shielded Speakers
1x Led Cathode (for Marque)

p.s. this is not a project announcement since I'm still in the planning phase. As soon as I have all parts I'll create a new thread in the Project Announcements.

The minipac seems redundant since teh U360s have an 8 button controller built in and the Utrak is already USB, unless I'm missing something.

Yeah, you could replace the minipac with 2 x button harnesses.  What are you using for P1, P2 and coin?  Also, some cheap computer speakers may work over the amp and speakers.

Also, if you are looking at 2 players with 6 buttons each and a 22" screen you really could be doing a small standup rather than a bartop that needs a pretty big bar/table to be viable.

Can the U360 buttons be used as p1/p2/coin? I thought that they couldn't and that is why I added the minipac.

In mame, essentially any button can be assigned for anything.

If you're gonna use the trackball as a mouse in Windows you'll need two more buttons.. They could o'course be a lot smaller than the 12 player buttons.

The other option and people may shoot me for this is the trackball  (http://www.xgaming.com/store/arcade-parts-and-accessories/product/x-arcade-trackball-assembly/) from X gaming.  I only mention this because it is in my opinion the only part (other than the WG D9800) worth ordering from them. It is a quality trackball (Betson Imp clone) and its USB based plus comes with the button harness attached. It is also ridiculously easy to mount flush, plus it is cheaper! ;)
