Title: 25" WG monitor acting up at remote adjust board
Post by: g.robert on August 07, 2010, 12:20:20 am
Have a strange issue; picked up a tekken tag tournament (conv from killer instinct) with game running in background but no video. Pulled monitor WG # 25K7197 but disconnected remote adjust board (rab) because it was easier than unbolting the bracket holding it in place to take it too. Local company I've used many times before replaced a flyback and voltage regulator said all was OK. I took it home and plugged it in and pitch black. Disconnected rab and got white horizontal lines. Reconnecting the rab with one side connected more than other side and as I move it around I can get full picture with varying degrees of quality. rab plugged all the way in and I'm pitch black again. This rab and connector look perfect and clean. Could it be as simple as the remote adjust board? All the pots on it seem OK but I don't know what values to look for. In retrospect I wish I'd left the rab connected when I took the monitor in. Hoping to find the ??? issue without having to haul it back to the shop. Any ideas?

NEVER POWER A MONITOR THAT USES A REMOTE ADJUSTMENT BOARD WITH OUT THE ADJUSTMENT BOARD ATTACHED!  :whap Doing so is likely to cause damage to components on the chassis!

I'd check for cracked/cold solder joints where the adjustment board plugs in if the picture changes when you move the connector. Also, with the monitor unplugged, remove and test the wires from one side of the board to the other with a volt meter on continuity test.

Thanks for the warning, shows how much I know. I'll be sure to not do that again. To confirm (and this makes sense) leave it all connected, power disconnected from game and ohm each wire from the PCB board on the rab back to the monitor board to verify integrity of each connection. Hopefully I will find one or more open connections for a quick fix. Is that correct? Also I think you have answered this but if the rab is not connected I will get no picture? The reason I ask is that I assume the repair guys must have used their own to connect if it is required to get a picture.

If the board is not connected, some circuits may have values way out of range, and depending on the monitor model, this can cause damage to other components.

I want you to inspect the plug in connectors where they are soldered to on the bottom of each board and look for bad solder joints. If you can unplug the cable from the board on both sides, do so and check continuity of the cable.

OK will do; on the rab disconnected question I assume if they HAD to connect a rab to test the monitor then logic would seem to indicate the problem is soley in my rab.
