Title: Discharge Question
Post by: mike boss on August 05, 2010, 06:29:33 pm
I have 3 monitors that I wanted to discharge prior to installing them into a new home.
I broke the neck on one of the monitors and also want to save the chassis.
I created my "safe discharge tool" and was only able to remove the suction cup from one of the 3.
The other two monitors have a different clip and for the life of me I cant pry them of with the screwdriver.
I tried several times. I repeatedly touched the screwdriver to the suction cup, no noise, no sparks nothing.
Should I go in with my hand and remove the cups ? Or is that risky ?

Lastly once discharged and attempting to remove the chassis from the tube anything else I should be cautious of ?

just dont let it sit for a couple of days after the discharge and touch the hole near the tube...  it builds a charge again and can scare the hell out of you.

Put on a pair of winter gloves, maybe some rubber gloves under them.  Discharge again,
use a flat head to raise the rubber lip, then you could use your gloved fingers
to pry and keep it back to inspect things.

You might try two flat-head drivers to pinch the clip together.. and or possibly a small
needle-nose pliers.

there are two prongs under the cup, and they stick out to the sides to keep the thing inserted. So I dont usually use the tool to remove the thing. I discharge, keep the tool touching just in case and then I use my hand to press the rubber cup to one side and that usually forces one of the prongs to pop out (you'll know when it has). So then it comes right out.

Congratulations ! Welcome to manhood!
You will find yourself getting a little better everytime, maybe lower your standards for a bit and just find something good to practise on.....

We are talking about sex right?
