Title: Xenon playfield options, advice needed:)
Post by: AE35 on August 05, 2010, 02:35:59 pm
Hey guys!

I have a Xenon with a LOUSY playfield. I've been trying to touch it up, but now I've
sort uf reached the point where I have to decide if throwing more money at this playfield is
a good idea.

So, what are my options here? a new one, a NOS, or an overlay?

Any advice would be great!! I would REALLY like to get this stuff fixed. I'm so tired of throwing money
into the xenon-hole :D

Where can I get overlays?? That sounds like an OK idea. or a used playfield in alright condition!!

Thanks!!

Nicholas

Overlays suck...they're a giant piece of mylar that slows down play and makes the game suck. The last NOS Xenon playfield that sold went for around $1800, IIRC.

Your best option is to get a reproduction field...

http://www.classicplayfields.com/index.html (http://www.classicplayfields.com/index.html)  doesnt look like they have one right now but I would imagine they might over time.

Ok, thanks!

About the playfield scan, where could I get it printed?

Is overlay really that bad?

Wow these playfields are really expensive, eh? Maybe the fire axe is a better idea!

Not really...a repro should run you about $600

 Hey again!

I've looked at some of the overlay options, and it seems that something is strange at the inserts?
almost like the insert color was scanned and then printed like the rest and then it ends up on top
of the real insert?

Have a look here:
http://www.newyawk.us/Pinball/highspeed.htm (http://www.newyawk.us/Pinball/highspeed.htm)

On picture nine(9) he has the overlay on the wood...but the inserts looks like they're printed on?? :dunno

Can anyone enlighten me about this?

Thanks,

Nicholas

Xenon = not worth the effort

Colors are wrong on the repro playfield, but that's par for the CPR course.

What are you talking about with color issues? The only game I have heard of issues from CPR is the first run of Fathom they did. I have a Centaur playfield from them and a pre-production plastics set from them (they did a run of 20 sets to test plastics before they started actually doing them) and both have perfect coloring.

Centaur is only red, white, and black  :dunno

The only coloring issue I see is their finish isn't old yellowed lacquer, so the colors look off

Yes, the inserts are printed on the overlays.  No, you will not get 100% alignment with the ones on your playfield.

But doesn't the light have a hard time penetrating the printed color on the overlay? On the pictures it looks very strange to me

I mean, look at the triangle inserts, especially the green ones. On the overlay they don't look tranparent, but like solid colors

It looks like the wrong font for the bonus also.
