The www.mameroom.com is giving away another x-arcade controller in the August drawing.
-
I can't participate. I got banned from Mameroom when Cyberpunk was planning to hire lawyers to try to shut down BYOAC. :'(
I cry....and I cry.

LOL
Now you are in the "suspension room" :D
How cool is that !

Yes, this was an unfortunate situation that has since been resolved. You on the other hand were banned from the MameRoom.com messsage boards for extreme use of profanity. Rules are rules and I have an obligation to uphold these rules. You probably would have been banned from each and every forum if you used that language in it....not to mention attacking an "Administrator" with that language. Again, unfortunate because we plan on giving away one x-arcade each month from now on!
-
Oh the humanity! My entire subnet is banned so I can't even sneak back in with a new name. I am confined to my own personal mameroom-free hell on Earth.
Oh God, the injustice....
WHY ME???????
-
Why were they trying to sue BYOAC ???
-
Well there has to be a winner. So either the number will be drawn from all available entries or a new number will be drawn until a winner is found. Either way your odds are 1 in however many people enter.
-
Well I was looking at a list of previous winners and there has been one every month. So I would assume that he keeps drawing until he finds a winner.
-
What would happen if someone registered 1000 free email accounts, and just picked every number?
-
That's alot of original accounts and different names.

MameRoom drawing info:
Yes, there has been some confusion due to the changing of the drawing rules and structure. The mameroom will continue to hold drawings and giveaways for various products...however, the MameRoom monthly drawing will now be limited to larger (higher-priced) products such as x-arcade controllers, etc...
Due to the increase in costs for prizes, the rules of the drawing have changed. Entrants must now enter the shipping address to where they want the prize sent. Entrants cannot specify a different address upon winning the drawing...this will hopefully discourage entrants from entering the contest more than once, since that is one of the new rules.
As far as the random numbering system used...on the specified drawing date, a random 3-digit number is generated and posted to the drawing page and drawing database. This number is NOT generated from numbers selected by entrants (numbers in a hat sort of thing). In previous drawings, the entrant whos number matched closest won...in the current drawing, the numbers must match to win. In previous drawings, there have been as many as 912 entrants for a drawing...so the chances of someone NOT winning the drawing are very slim. In the event that the prize is not won, it will be used in the following month's drawing...
Good luck!
-
CP: you may want to change the form so it only accepts three digit numbers. I put in four numbers before I re-read the info. Luckily it allowed me to change it.
-
Thanks for the feedback, I was scambling to change the form so it would be fair to everyone and much more work still needs to be done.
-
Ok so if I participate every month for the next 85 years or so I will probably win. ;D
-
The drawing is free to enter (no purchase necessary), however, MameRoom customers get a special bonus and are allowed to select two numbers. So if you have purchased something from the MameRoom, you can enter two numbers each month to double your changes....only 42.5 years. But I honestly think your chances will be better than that!
-
Well 85 years of playing would virtually guarantee a win. Theoretically playing for half that time will give you a 50% chance of winning. So anything in between would mean you are more likely than not to win.
Ya can't argue with "free", though. :) "Free" entry and "free" prizes...
-
I appreciate the support...but I must be completely honest so there is no possible confusion...there may or may not be shipping charges associated with the prize.
CyberTech Design will cover standard shipping costs (within the US). Any additional shipping costs will need to be paid for by the winner. One of the previous winners lived outside the US and shipping costs were a tad on the expensive side to ship an x-arcade controller to.
-
Well next time you have a winner outside the U.S. who is concerned about shipping costs... you know who to call to take it off your hands for you.

Gave me this.

Anybody else see this?

I am currently working on (updating) the www.mameroom.com website....depending on your ISP, you may not see the changes immediately.
In the meantime, please use this link:

Heh. Odds of winning are 1 in 1000. But you are still playing the odds. You could theoretically play till the end of time and never win. It's just not likely :).
The chance of actually giving away a unit is (number of entries/1000). In other words, %100 in the event of 1000 entries, or .1% with 1 entry. So if you want to see it given away, you had better enter (and tell your friends :).)
I was a little skeptical until I saw how it was conducted. Each number can only be picked once, which is cool. If it was a "blind" selection with no winners in the event of a tie, the odds start to skyrocket.
But it's a fair contest and a nice gesture by CP.

hey, even a .1% chance of winning, for no cost of entry, is very good.
-
That contest, with extra entries for paying customers, and a possibility of no winner is also an illegal lottery. Enjoy.
-
That may or may not be true (I cannot find any laws against it since I'm taking no money to enter the contest), but if it is and someone doesn't want to be involved in potentially illegal activity...don't enter the drawing!
For those who have been around for early MameRoom drawings...you'll remember the winning numbers were based on the Ohio lottery results. When someone spitefully informed the Ohio lottery commission about the drawing, they contacted me regarding the drawings. They merely said I can't post the Ohio pick-3 lottery numbers anywhere on my site...never a word about the contest...thus the new randomly selected number system for determining the winner.
...so no worries people, if a drawing of this type was breaking any laws, I'm almost positive that the Ohio lottery commission would have had more to say about it. The MameRoom will continue to give away free stuff regarless!

A contest that you must pay to participate in is illegal. However, this contest is clearly 'no purchase is necessary' and there will be a guaranteed winner from all entries.

Only a guaranteed winner if there is 1000 entries, and if there is 1000 entries that is a new can of worms if the 1001+ person wants to enter and it is only August 26.
**keeping fingers crossed in hopes of winning**
I believe that a winner is being chosen from the numbers that have been picked.
-
Hmmm...I guess I'm one of those who is plain dumbfounded about all of the hassles in giving away free stuff.
New rules: It's my site and I can pretty much give away anything I want to anyone I want...so here are the new rules (which will be posted).
- It's no longer a "contest" or "drawing".
Simply sign up and give me your name, email, and address.
- On a specified date, I'll have a random number generator pick a name out of the list! A guaranteed recipient, (not "Winner") for the "gift" (not "prize")....just me giving away something to one of my new friends.
-If they are a mameroom customer, then they are a "special" friend and my number generate will consider them for the gift more than once.
So, in essence, the new "giveaway" will consist of me saying "Who wants an x-arcade?" and a whole bunch of people raising their hands saying "Ohh, I do, I do". Then I get to randomly select one.
Sound fair? Legal? Any complaints? Suggestions?
Good...it's done then!
Free stuff for everyone! (well, not everyone). I don't know why I didn't do it this way to begin with. I tend to over complicate things.
Thanks for all your feedback and information. It's very much appreciated!

why do people seem to have the need to harp about everything? Jesus people, it's just a friggin give away. Let it go. Who cares if it doesn't fit your wanna-be lawyer mentality of what's legal and what isn't. Lets just pick it apart until it's dead. Is that the game you're all playing? Holy mother of God, just let it go... ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) X eleventybillion

In light of being perceived as one who harps about everything, I have deleted my prior posts on this topic. I was confussed about the process, but CyberPunk was kind enough to elaborate on the process. I am excited about the event, and hope that I am the recipient this month. ;D
