I just put together a PC to begin a pinball cab build, but with VP9 running the graphics are less than smooth. Actually they are very 'jagged' The flippers are the most noticeable, but it's pretty obvious on most curved lines.
I've got a GTS 250 1GB Nvidia graphics card and it's currently connected via HDMI to a 40" Proscan 40LD45Q LCDTV. I've got Win XP loaded, a Quad core processor with 4GB RAM. I've tried various settings in the TV, Windows and NVidia, but I can't seem to get this thing to a decent look.
I've searched here and in Hyperpin/Hyperspin, but can't seem to find a fix. I'm beginning to think this is simple, but that I'm glossing over it...
Any epiphanies out there?

Yeah ive seen razor sharp pictures of VP and I cant seem to get it sharp either.
Must be something to do with anti-aliasing but I cant figure out how to achieve it either

What resolution are you running it at? That's the biggest influence on "jaggies".

To me that looks horrible. I see no anti-aliasing and the transparencies on the various tubes just look like every-other-pixel dithering.

well it looks 100x better than what I can achieve with GOOD hardware - how?

I found if I hit F1 when 'in game' you can set the anti aliasing to 100 instead of 50, seems to help some

Try going into your nvidia control panel and forcing anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering to max in all applications, see if that helps.

I've tried just about every resolution offered in Windows. Is there a specific resolution that I should be using?
As far as NVIDIA goes with anti-aliasing and anisotropic, I see many settings that appear to be related and what I've found, I've tried setting to max. Here are some examples:
NVIDIA Control Panel 2.4.370.04
3D Setting / Manage 3d settings / Anisotropic filtering =16x
3D Setting / Manage 3d settings / Antialiasing - Gama correction =On
3D Setting / Manage 3d settings / Antialiasing - Mode =Override any application
3D Setting / Manage 3d settings / Antialiasing - Setting =16xQ
3D Setting / Manage 3d settings / Antialiasing - Transparency =Supersampling
3D Setting / Manage 3d settings / Texture filtering - Anisotropic sample optimization =Off
3D Setting / Manage 3d settings / Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias =Clamp
3D Setting / Manage 3d settings / Texture filtering - Quality =Quality
3D Setting / Manage 3d settings / Texture filtering - Trilinear Optimization =Off
Are there settings that I'm missing?

I cant believe this is the best I can achieve with great hardware and all anti alias settings cranked to the max

JPEG dithering doesnt help. post a png. that looks pretty good to me , but what do I know

it looks better then mine, so I dont really have much advice. My running (barely) on very lowly hardware.

I had the same problem. Changed to vp8, and the jaggy pixels are a distant memory....

Interesting. I may try that just to see and confirm that with my hardware, it is possible to get a crisper picture. But, for a pinball cabinet build, I've got to use VP9 with Fullscreen tables. VP8 is not an option for me.

what's the native res on your monitor? If it's not 1680x1050 then that could be the issue. The monitor's built-in scaling could be jacking things up if you're not runninig at it's native rez.
