Could be interesting for sure. Directed by this man:

Its being directed by Tony Moran?

No, William Shatner.
PS: Although I have a fondness for The Last Starfighter, it's not worthy of a remake. I was 14 when I saw it. I was easily amused back then.

Just the mention of this movie makes me want to fire it up again.
TLSF is a great movie. Decent acting. Humor. Video Games being played :) ,
Cool ship, great characters, fun ride.
The main things I was disappointed about, was the lack of intense battle footage,
and the main bad guy being way too cheesy. Ohh, and the Hero being a little too
reluctant.
I think a sequel could be really amazing with the right cast & storyline.
Especially in Steroscopic 3D.
They could make a new arcade game / console game to be released after the movie.
The movie game could be something like a networked game, which tracks the top
Starfighters, which later are recruited when the threats come straight for earth.
I think its a great idea.

Its being made by the same director that did the original? Look at his movie list, the first one is the only good thing he ever did.
Major Payne, Dennis the Menace, Tap and Delivering Milo? ::)

It's not a remake. It looks like it's about the original guy coming back to protect the Earth.
A remake would be hard to do today, because the story was about testing earthlings with an arcade game. An one of the games was accidentally left at a trailer park. If a game just appeared at trailer park today the bomb squad would be called in and then the government would impound it for not having a vending sticker.
