Is there a tutorial for making halos for your buttons? I know there was one for kneival's kustoms but that site appears japanese now.
talking specifically like this:

Also is there a place that has high-res or vector joystick arrows like pictured above? I see everyone has such nice 8-way arrows and circles around their joysticks. Hoping there is a link around here?

There isn't a link that I see for his tutorial on his website. I sent him a pm here asking if he still had it on his site but I never got a response.

I'm not sitting in front of my home PC, but I know that in PhotoShop you can add whats called a "stroke" effect to layers and that will add the yellow and black around the buttons you have in the photo you provided. you just have to make the inner shape first then add the stroke in the layers palette. If you can find vector arrows, you can import them into PS as raster and then apply the effect.
I'm not sure how to do it in any other program as easily, but that's the way I would do it.

Yes... Stroke is the way to go...
For instance...
Draw your artwork the way you want it... One color....
Then add a black stroke around it by right clicking on the layer and adding Effects...
You can then FLATTEN the layer and add another stroke...Say yellow.... Then Flatten and then add the last black stroke to get the desired effect... The option you showed would take basically those three stroke steps to achieve the effects desired...
Here is mine is you wish to modify or whatever http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CE00JFT0 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=CE00JFT0)
