Title: CONFUSED... How to output 8 liner game boards to PC monitors?
Post by: matt_3756 on July 25, 2010, 12:58:25 pm
 ???

Ok so I have a small upright cherry master machine I got at a yardsale for $50. The CRT monitor is just about shot, can barely see the game, so Im trying to find out if I am able to output from the 8 liner boards to a VGA PC monitor. I found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350244621369&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350244621369&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123)

But I don't know how I would connect from the 8 liner board to this converter. Below is a pic of where the harness of a CRT monitor plugs into the board... so I am assuming I would need some converter or something to go from the game board as shown below, to some sort of converter to be able to display on a VGA PC monitor...? Any thoughts? Thanks!

The connector you have shown is the power and hopper power connector.   The video comes from the the larger 72 pin connector.  Check a manual for the board that you have to see which are the video pins.   I have attached a CM manual that may be of help.

A jrok converter maybe a cheaper alternative.   Lets you use a TV as a monitor.  JROK (http://www.jrok.com/hardware/RGB.html)

Well I looked in the monitor chassis and the only wires I could find going to the cherry master main 72 pin harness is a small 6 prong connector that has r g b y and I think black... so would that just plug into the JROK? Using a tv monitor is fine with me, seems like it would be easier??

Thanks!

That 6 prong connector should plug right into the JROK board.   You should use a TV with S video in to get the best picture with the cheaper JROK converter.   Composite in on a TV is not as good as S video.  You will probably get the sharpest picture using the converter you were looking at on eBay with a PC monitor. However this depends on the quality of the up converter.

I am going to give the JROK a try. I am not very familiar with all the monitor technicalities but hopefully this should be pretty simple to install.

So are 8 liner boards like Cherry Master RGB or CGA? Whats the difference between the two or are they the same?

AFAIK he is still selling his boards but I do not know how fast he responds to emails.  Most people who do this sort of thing on the side can take a while to get back to you as life seems to get in the way.

Im buying this instead: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360266251224&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360266251224&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT)

Looks like it should work so I can use an LCD monitor. I hope!
