If this has already been posted, I didn't notice.
Street Fighter X Tekken Debut Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9EpHRdlI3M#ws)
I don't know how the gameplay style differences are going to be worked out, but that was a pretty cool trailer (especially the retro bit at the end).

Game trailers that show absolutely zero gameplay tick me off.

I don't know that the gameplay differences are incompatible. They both use Back to block. The only difference is jab, mid, strong attacks vs left/right attacks. Seems it could work. Oh, countering might be a problem...

Theres going to be TWO games. SF X Tekken by Capcom that will play street fighter style ans Tekken X SF that will play Tekken style.

I'd rather see Capcom vs SNK (vs Marvel?)

How about Street Fighter VS Silent Hill? YEAHHH! Pyramid Head FTW

I'm still holding out for Primal Rage vs Time Killers.

Nah... Tattoo Assasins vs Bio Freaks!

Seriously though... seems like a terrible idea to me. Character-wise tekken's characters have always been pretty much rip-offs of characters from other series, including street fighter. Fighting wise Street Fighter is a .. well.. street fighter and tekken is a grappler, more closely related to wrasslin games. I personally could never stand the tekken fighting system. I know some like it but I've got a feeling that those people don't really care for the street fighter gameplay.
This dual game thing seems to have the same issues as capcom vs snk/snk vs capcom from back in the day. Namely that you have your favorite engine (street fighter or snk) and it has all your favorites on the roster and then the other half of the characters are lame ones from another series you either don't care for or no little to nothing about.
With all that being said, if this game makes pac-man vs mega man possible I'll take back everything I just said. ;)

I don't think so. Street Fighter itself is the archetypal rip-off -- see "Master of The Flying Guillotine" and countless other *much older* martial arts movies for reference. Street Fighter just started the boom. Tekken's bigger problem is ripping itself off; there are still a lot of shared moves/techniques between characters. It's much better than the past days of model swaps (Yoshimitsu/Kunimitsu anyone?) but it's still there.
... and tekken is a grappler, more closely related to wrasslin games.
Huh? In that they both... have throws... ?:dunno I'm not following you here. Please elaborate.
Anyway, I don't think the engines are all that drastically different. I mean, you could get nitpicky and start talking about super-cancels and "chickens" and other pro-level "timing" ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---... what it really boils down to is how they decide to handle jumping and projectiles (both of which don't feature too prominently in Tekken) and movement on the z-axis (which isn't in Street Fighter.)
I like both games. I like both stories. I'm interested in seeing how they (Cap and Nam) each decide to integrate the worlds, particularly regarding the above mentioned gameplay idiosyncrasies. We've got a damn long time to wait though, so I'm not getting too excited...
-
well Im sure the SFxT is gonna play like Street Fighter 4 and the TxSF is gonna play like tekken. You are aware its TWO games being dev'ed right?

Malenko, I'm not sure if you were directing that at me or the OP, but yeah, I'm aware of that. I thought I was clear there. No worries. :)
Anyway, I dare say Namco has the more difficult job to do of making a playable game while incorporating Capcom's character universe. How do they make a Tekken-style game without hamstringing the Capcom characters? Capcom can tinker with the properties of a lot of the Tekken character's "signature" moves to combat the projectile throwers, (say, for example, if Mishima uppercuts pass through projectiles... I don't know!) but I don't think it's so simple the other way around.
I'm just curious as to how they're going to navigate that. Again, it's a loooooooong way away ... :dunno

mostly @ howard. I think the capcom one will be better either way. I just want HUGE line ups, like 20 or 30 minimum from EACH side.
