Title: Please help me understand interlock switch wiring
Post by: Zoel on July 24, 2010, 04:41:23 pm
I've recently purchased an X-Men 4-player arcade cabinet, but after moving it into my house, it stopped working.  It was working in my house, then after I unplugged it, there's nothing coming up on the screen, although I can hear that the CRT monitor is on.  I've deduced that there is no DC power coming out of the power supply (AC supply is fine), but I have an additional problem with the interlock switch that I could really use some advice on.  Every time that the interlock switch is pushed in or pulled out (any position except neutral), the primary fuse in the power supply trips.  I believe that the interlock switch has been improperly wired, but I can't find a picture of the correct wiring.

NOTE:
In the first picture, you can see the orange brown pair at the bottom right, and the blue connecting to the 115V top right.  Yellow is disconnected.

So four wires connect through the interlock switch - in my machine, someone has wired these to the Iso transformer, with one hot-common (orange/brown) pair connected to the same common terminal, one cold wire connected to the 115V terminal (blue), and the last hot wire (yellow) is loose.  In this configuration, I can't for the life of me figure out what the switch was intended to do, but I know that it at very least needs to be repaired, and probably needs to be completely rewired.

Above the interlock switch is a top-of-the-machine on-off switch that I believe has been repurposed to only control the marquee light.  I'm pretty sure that the whole setup is just to control the marquee light, and if so I would really appreciate it if someone could confirm that removing the interlock switch connections on the iso transformer won't affect anything else.  I really just want to keep that power supply fuse from blowing every time the switch moves out of the neutral position.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Since the cab was working before you moved it, and you haven't messed with the wiring (you haven't messed with the wiring right!), I would bet the interlock is correct.  Pushing in or pulling out the interlock just completes the circuit and the blown fuse is from something else.

Not sure what is causing your issue, but I had the same problem on one of my cabs and it turned out to be a bad ballast in the marquee.

interlock switch either allows power or stops it,so if the interlock is letting power into the cab it could be anything as power is blowing the fuse,so it dont mean its necessarily interlock related.

funnily i have blown 2 fuses earlier on,i was trouble shooting an atari transformer assembly.filter was ok but, nowhere else was getting power.i assumed it was due to no interlock switch and harness being connected to the assembly,i got one and the wiring and wired it up,only i wired it up wrong and everytime i had the interlock allowing power to the assembly it blew the main fuse,i blew 2 till i googled a pic on the net to double check the wiring and realised then it was not wired correctly causing the fuse to blow.

needless to say it dont blow now due to correct wiring.

so are you sure the wiring of the interlock is correct and all wires that should be wired to it are?also the on/of switch might or should be wired to the interlock also.
