Guitar for 21 years. Most styles, though I prefer metal and progressive rock.
I'd love to buy a bass someday for recording my own stuff. A guitar just isn't complete without a bass.
I can play keyboard, but not great.
Played drums in 6th grade band, so I can't really call myself a drummer.
-
I play ALL AIR Instruments except the Keyboard which I play with my Fingers ;D.
Used to be in Band back in the 80's. Now I just play my keyboard/Synth in Church (FREE). At least we go to diff Churches and always like it when we practiced.
Keeps my fingers from having Arthitis.

i played the trumbone in elementry school, thats about it

This one time, at band camp...

Chads mom plays the skin flute.
I'm just trying to lure him back.

I've got a Bass and a keyboard, just sitting there... Lonely.... waiting for me to learn how to play them.

I've played guitar since I was about 12 or so. Mostly 80's type rock stuff, but now that I'm older I'm starting to play more folk stuff. Guess I've turned into an old fart. lol

I've been composing music electronically for a little over ten years now. As for actual instruments I'm not good for a whole lot. Played Tuba in middle and high school for 7 years, then started playing digeridu for fun around 9 years ago.

edit: I was unaware that Last.FM would put up a player box. That's beyond shameless. I'm unsure how to prevent it from doing so, so I deleted the link tag and replaced it with code. Copy/Paste if you're interested.

I play trumpet, although not in some time. I still have one, I need to get a better mouthpiece for it...

Whoa, you did StaticAversion?!? Dude, I've been a fan of that SH2 remix for years. I believe I've listened to most of your remixes actually (I've been an OCremix regular visitor since they started in the late 90s).

Glad you enjoyed. (: Me and Steve Pordon (who did guitars on that track) have a Silent Hill track that should be posted in the next few months. Hope you'll enjoy it too!

I'm nuts for all things Akira Yamaoka.

Played drums for 8 years, piano for 12 (concurrently). I haven't touched either in close to 5 years or more. I'd like to get back into it, but other obligations in RL are stopping me from doing so. :-\

My step-dad is a professional "Studio Musician". He's one of those guys that has recorded with the Rolling Stones and many others but isnt an official member of the band. He's the guy on stage playing keyboard in concert, but is somewhat tucked away in the back of the stage. He gets liner notes credit for his work and does touring, but isnt paid nearly as much as they are. He doesnt fly in the private jet with the real band members, he has to provide his own way when on tour. He has worked with Bob Dylan, Hank Williams Jr, Elvin Bishop, Muddy Waters just to name a few. He gets royalty checks every month from sales. He was discovered playing blues in Memphis, TN playing in some hole in the wall place in 1966. He also played in Vegas with Frank Sinatra. For kicks 2 years ago, he went to Vegas and got a job playing piano in the foyer of the Bally's Paris casino, was paid Union scale. He has a bunch of Silver, Gold & Platinum records for his work. He plays keyboard, blows the harp, guitar, bass and somewhat beats the drums.
The point here is, if you can be a studio musician, do it! He brings in around $8,000 a month just from royalty checks alone, not including studio sessions & touring. His touring days are about over though as he is 61 and he just doesnt like to do it anymore. Some of his road stories seem impossible, but they are his stories and he can tell them anyway he wants!

I beat the skins myself. Been a drummer for 12 years now. I love me some metal. The faster the better. I just bought a house so no I can finally have my kit set up and play and not worry about it. Living in an apartment for 6 years made me suck quite a bit when I picked up my sticks recently. I beat on a practice pad, but that can only do so much. I was in a band but everyone moved away. I could be playing the drums but I picked up a new hobby.... ;)

Guitar, bass, keys, harmonica, Turntables.
Was a music student before getting into engineering! The problem with it is theirs always hundreds of people better than you! especially at an institute!

Playing AIR Instruments has it's own competation.
Air Guitar Competition in San Francisco (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aW6NcBbXUX0#ws)
One day, I might try it out :P

Used to be a quasi-pro drummer in the 90s (some would argue if drummers count as musicians ;D ) Played in a bunch of bands, never made enough to quit my day job however. Was in the "house band" for one of the worst shows ever on MTV which will remain nameless! Opened for Dandy Warhols, Moby, Ben Harper and a bunch of others I can't think of... Most of this was just being at the right place at the right time. I studied under Joe Satriani's drummer, Jeff Campitelli, as a kid. He just happened to teach at the local music store in the small town I grew up in.
I make electronic music on my own, but never have the time anymore... Oh well, life moves on!

I see what you did there. :lol

Drummer at heart, but harmonica player these days.
Had drum lessons twice a week for about 4 years then reached the point where I felt I wasn't getting enough from the lessons to justify them, then carried on playing for another couple of years until arthritis called an end to it. I've still got my kit, but it's in storage.
I took up blowing the harp instead, although I really miss drumming.

+1 fan of ocremix.org here
I did piano, saxophones and vocals for a lot of years. Mostly classical and jazz, but I especially loved jazz. But when I moved into the townhouse four years ago, my piano wouldn't fit. It's sitting at my parent's place until I can buy a house.
Now instead of real music, I play a lot of Rock Band 2. Plastic guitars count as instruments, right?

Hey LT,
Well, I like bands that kind of sound like that, but not really THOSE particular bands. I cant get over the lead singer's vox in Kataklysm. Drives me nuts. I like Dimmu Borgir, Old Mans Child, Iced Earth, even some power metal such as Gamma Ray and Stratovarious. They sing about stupid stuff, but man they are fast! I also like some new bands called Caliban, and As Blood Runs Black. Try those guys if you like the heavier stuff. Children of Bodom is also a classic, there is a band I just got into called Abigail Williams, they rock pretty hard too. The new FF is good huh? Man, I cant even remember the names of those albums that I like, but one has edgecrusher on it, and the other has new breed...I cant believe I forgot the names of those damn records! :banghead:

Play piano and organ (don't even go there), plus acoustic rhythm guitar, recorder, harmonica, clarinet (been a long time, but I could probably pick that instrument up again within a few weeks). I also sing and have written original material for the duo I formed with my sister in the 90's.
I read this again, and thought, dang that sounds like bragging. It's not meant to be; my sis and I come from a background of music, especially where Southern Gospel is concerned. Its' just in our blood.
-
I'm 38 and just bought my first guitar... So I'm sure I'll never be a musician, but I hope to be able to play competently someday.

I just bought a cheap acoustic for now. This way if I really suck, I'm not out a ton of money, and if I keep with it, I can always buy an electric later on.
Musicians Friend had a sale last week on a Washburn D6S Dreadnought for $84.
I guess it's not technically my first guitar. I had a cheap electric when I was 17, but I never really played it and it ended up just collecting dust.

I am a guitar player mainly [it's pretty much my job], but I sing and play mandolin and bass guitar as well. I program drums like a crazy mofo and I can play piano well enough to fix it in protools. I'm a composer, mainly guitar driven music and pretty small time but I make enough to live off of it. On the side I also run live sound when people are willing to pay me enough - I have a great rep but I don't like dealing with the drama of live music. I have worked with Randy Bachman, Heart, Joan Jet, David Suzuki, Econoline Crush, Bill Cosby, and hundreds of nobodies. Most of the bigger guys are pretty humble about it, but the up-and-comings have that sassy ---smurfette--- attitude that I don't like to deal with.
Besides, I love putting on a pair of boxer shorts, going downstairs, picking up a guitar and a cup of coffee and being "at" work. I don't make a killing but I make enough to be happy, and I only work about 25 hours a week.

Econoline Crush
I saw them live in '98. It was at a festival made up of a mostly nobodies, but they had a good set.

Is your CEP licensed to Peter Quistgard? lol. Don't let anyone tell you what software you *should* be using. It's all the same, if you are going to upgrade to something newer I'd say try a few and pick what makes you the most productive. What matters most is your outboard gear - source, microphone, preamp, a/d converters. And of course the weakest link will probably always be your recording space itself. I'm just about done my renovations [gutted the bottom half of my house] and it's gonna be amazing. I just have the live room finished right now but I'm itching to finish the control room.

Nice! I use Yamaha DTXplorer midi drums and run samples for quick demos, but for the good stuff I lay down beats on my fancy DW drum kit - well, I do the mics and the recording and let a good drummer do it.

Gee, doesn't that sound familiar... from a long time ago, though. (:
