Title: Help me fix my stick
Post by: zaktallica on July 16, 2010, 04:53:49 pm
SO I went to play on my mame cab and while hitting up on the x-arcade stick nothing happened..Everything else worked accept for up..SO I took the thing apart and everything looked ok so I thought it may be the microswitch so I took it out to look at it. One of the wires crimps that was connected to it broke. I tried 3 types of crimps and the issue is the microswitch is to close the wood side to fit any wires..No matter what crimp i put on there when I set the switch in place the wires are in the way..Im pretty bad with electrical things so I need some help..Thanks I attached two pics so you can see the broken head and if you look you can see how close the switch points against the "wall" of the stick..

maybe remove the shielding and then slide it on as far as you can...

I had a similar issue and just found that helped.

That does look to be awfully close.

For a quick fix do you think bending the terminals would give you a little more clearance?

It may help if you remove the micro from the joystick and connect the wires/disconnects to the micro before attaching the micro back in posistion.

You could solder the wires directly onto the terminals but that may not be an option for you.

Its bad design on X-Arcades part anyway.

thats what I did I removed the Micro switch then plugged the wires in as far as I could then when I laid it back down the wires were rammed against the wall and I couldn't go any farther..I bent the quick connects and even bought some angled ones and I cant get this damn thing to fit back on..Im not sure what to do..I was going to buy some blue IL competition sticks but I would have this same issue..

Bend the contact of the switch so when you put it back it is not facing the side of your control panel.   Put the quick connects on and screw the switch back into postion.

Ok So bend the tabs on the microswitch? How hard are they to bend and do they brake easy?

I have bent a couple and not had one break yet.   Depends on the switch I guess. Use pliers and flatten the right angle on the metal so no force is placed on the switch.  Anyway switches are cheap.
