After almost 2 years since my last cabinet, I decided to start again. This time I had some experience and a lot more tools to work with. :)
I used MDF wood for the cabinet again:

Started cutting out the sides:

Both sides done, used the router to get a perfect match:

And the result, LOTS of dust and this:

Oh, nice medieval looking dungeon of a shop you got there :lol
also noticing the trademark MDF droppings on the floor. ahh, what fun.

Very nice start. Are you going to curve along the top or use straight pieces?
-
Looks good so far, freaky how well that TV fits in there!
-
Closed the back of the cabinet and added a place for the top fan.

After google'ing for days, I just couldn't find any cool artwork to use for the arcade. I then decided to pay someone to design something for me. 2 Guys said they'll do it, but both dropped me. Then my wife said she'll do it, even though she doesn't have any designing background. She installed Photoshop on her pc and started playing around with different ideas.
I've always been a big fan of the Metal Slug series. I was able to finish Metal Slug 1, 2, 3 & X with one credit. So we decided to give it a Metal Slug theme. This is what she came up for the marquee.

Nice that it's not over the top.
Most artwork I see on cabinets is just too flashy for my tastes.
-
The marquee looks great!
-
Your wife has mad skills! Very nice marquee! :applaud:
-
That marquee is impressive for someone who "just" learned how to do it!
You should ask her if she would like to make a little $$ on the side making them for fellow BYOAC'ers! ;)
-
I am impressed by that marquee, also love the orange paint job, i love anytime someone does anything outside of the usual black
btw IG-88 do you have a full size pick of that bartop Huskers cab, as a die hard Husker fan i would love to see it, I am actually thinking of going with a Huskers theme for my cab

Regarding paint, could you tell us what specific paint color that is along with the maker? Like Behr Halloween Orange or something like that? High gloss?
Also, with your method of construction. I see all the metal brackets. Knowing MDF, isn't that a bit delecate? I would think that screws would rip out of MDF easily. Is it also glued?
I am going to eventually do a scratchbuild but fear the weight of a cabinet. What is an MDF constructed cabinet like that going to weight when completed?
Also, how deep is that cabinet? I am hoping to do something under 2 feet deep and that looks close.

Will check the paint color tonight.
Only brackets with screws. The tv is quite heavy and I don't trust just glue to hold it together. The whole cabinet is very solid, so hopefully I won't have any issues with the screws coming out.
Not sure about the depth of the cabinet, will also check tonight. It's not very deep though, the tv is a ultra-slimfit.
-
Artwork and perspex added to the control panel, and fitted joysticks and buttons.
The artwork is the POW from Metal Slug. :)

Thats an old pic. I've redone the CP since. It's small so you can't see the details ;D
If I get some time I"ll get a better shot of it.

Thanks RVZ,
If your cabinet is the appropriate depth, I might copy it :-)

That POW Cp is awesome I am really diggin the Orange Cab all around
-
Some pics of the complete cabinet. Still have to buy a light for the marquee, and connect the led's for the 1 & 2 player buttons, and coin reject buttons.

That's spectacular! :applaud: Then only thing I would do different is to have four buttons in black (NEO-GEO only uses four, remember?) and buttons 5 and 6 in orange.
-
That's such an eye catching cabinet! I love the artwork and the color choices, Bravo! :applaud:
-
Very very nice job. What kind of monitor do you have in there? It looks nice and big but your cab looks pretty thin.
-
that's the best self-made Arcade i have ever seen!! :applaud: :applaud:
-
that thing is awesome :cheers:and :applaud:
-
Looks great, the colour came out really nice. Do you have plans to put an side art on it? Seems like it could use a little something.
Good job!

Thanks. It's a super-slimfit 29" flatscreen crt. Works great for these cabinets.

Thought about it, but not now, might do something later.

Wow - 29"!! Sweet. Where did you get the monitor and do they make them in 20" - 25" versions? Also, is it a computer/arcade monitor or a TV? I want to fit the biggest CRT possible in my Taito...
-
Nice job! :applaud:
That is the same colour scheme I was going to go with for an earlier project (Wasteland cab) and I gotta say it looks great seeing something similiar actually built!
Very clean build and a cab that is going to be a lot of fun to play on!

They're in all the shops here, it's a normal tv, just a lot slimmer than the older ones. No 25", the slimfit models are only available in 21" and 29". And it has a component input. :)
-
This looks fantastic! I think the fact your didn't do a control panel which overhangs on the cab makes it! Keeps it neat looking! Great job!
You manage ok with only 1&2 player buttons ? No menu/exit/credit buttons ?
-
swheet
probably wanna call it something else though. marquee looks good but its not just a metal slug cabinet lol.
MAME SLUG perhaps :dizzy:
