Ebay auction **Not Mine**

If you Buy it Now its about half the price as getting it though Happs, I would jump on it but just picked one up the other day and am sure that my better half wouldn't consent to me picking up a second one.

I didnt realize coin doors were so expensive. I have two, just like that, on a cab that I'm not using.

NEW doors are expensive. Used ones aren't very costly, and most game collectors have a bunch of them. I think I still have 2 spares left, even after giving them away for $10 each to every local Mame builder who wanted one.

It depends on the condition of the door. Most of the doors I've sold have been in good cosmetic condition, but I've rebuilt them to be in excellent mechanical condition.
Recently I've been working to make them both nice cosmetically as well as mechanically nice. The more work I put into them, the more money people are willing to pay.
The door in this auction doesn't look new, but I could be wrong. It looks like it's in decent enough condition, but it's hard to tell from the one, slightly blurry picture.

He states thats it is a "working all the way coin door", but doesn't make mention of the coin mechs. I wonder if thats implied or what. The deal sounds too good to be true if mechs are inlcuded. I might email him though, if thats the case i may jump on it. I'm only skeptical because its missing locks. While no big deal it just makes me wonder what else is missing.
I just bought a new one from happ, but this would be a good deal if mechs were inlcuded.

Why a big deal over mechs? Mechs are nothing. Although, if he sez that the door is working 'all the way' and there are no mechs, he's misrepresenting his product.

I just meant that at $40 with no mechs its not really a steal. The cheapo mechs you get with the door from happ are 13.80 a piece plus shipping. So $27.60 + shipping for a set of mechs, it also needs locks, a few bucks for those. After that and the $40 if you use buy it now, you're almost up to what happ wants for it new. Also as you mentioned, it doesn't really look new. Granted its a fine deal if you just want the look and don't need the mechs. On a side not i have a quick question for you peale. Since you've had many doors come through your hands, maybe you can clear something up for me. How heavy and sturdy are the older doors? I'm not sure if you ever had your hands on a current Happ or not, but the over/under i just got from them actually feels kinda cheap. Its much lighter than i expected from what i've heard of coin doors. It doesn't feel very sturdy either. I can't see this thing surving in a real arcade. Granted it should hold up fine in a home cab, I'm just curious if all the ones on ebay are as heavy as the sellers claim. I was very surpised at how little the shipping was from happ since happ normally seems to be a little on the high side as far as shipping. But then again it is much lighter weight than expected. Anyway any feedback you could offer is appreciated.

Yeah, that's a good point. IF you get the mechs new. Used they're pretty reasonable. Of course, shipping a door costs an arm & a leg (they're damn heavy)

I have the pieces of a more recent one. They are a bit thinner, but still okay. Of course, this was recent, but probably still 6-8 years old. It still has metal innards, and AFAIK, the new stuff has ABS innards. Still tough & certainly lighter weight.

The stuff from waaaaay back you could run over with a tank and it wouldn't suffer. I had a door from a Tank Battalion game. The first door I sold. I'm pretty sure it was solid stainless steel. Heavy as a SOB.
I think that if you put a new door into a cab it would be okay in the arcade. After all, you have a wooden brace all around it to give it a lot of support. I think the newer stuff (esp with the addition of ABS) is just easier to manufacture, since it's 90% injection molding.

I just meant it wouldn't survive as far as vandalism. I remember seeing many bent coin doors in my local arcades where vandals tried to pry the door out or open. The metal on my coin door feels like it would bend quite easy just prying with a flathead screwdriver(screwup with my cutout) much less a crowbar or the likes. This just goes back to what i was saying about it feeling cheaper than what my impression was of older coin doors. As you mentioned, i suspected the older coin doors were built stronger. Such is the cast with many things these days, they just don't build them like they used to. I'm not trying to crap on happs product(s), just sharing an observation. I just had a totally different expectation before getting my coin door due to the heavy weight of coin doors i saw going on ebay. By the way i know this is a stupid question, but what does [sic] mean exactly? I know it was pointing out my spelling mistake, just curious what it actually stands for. Thanx for the clarification on the coin doors.

It's a way of pointing out a mistake in print that is in the original text. It's meant to show that this is exactly how it came to the printer.

That coin door doesn't seem like a great deal to me. It has obviously been repainted (which means it wasn't painted particularly well) and the picture isn't good enough to tell what else is wrong with it. Plan to strip it and repaint it, at least. There might be even more work involved.
There are lots of coin doors on ebay that need work for $10-$40 at any given time. Usually, a truly brand new, unused door can be found for $50-70.
