Title: help with guncon
Post by: tykenfitz on July 11, 2010, 01:05:11 am
OK so, I'm trying to hook up my cypher games guncon for use with MAME.  I tried using guncon2pc but it didn't detect my gun.  Then I used WinGun and it made the gun work good as a mouse in window but in mame the gun sticks to the sides of the screen and in HOD it is jumpy and won't move much,  It's plugged in with the usb and I've got s-video coming out of my pc to a composite adapter which the composite thing on my guncon is connected through.  Does this video set-up create problems?  Do I need to get a new gun con, cuz this one sucks anyway.

By the way I'm using a panasonic 25" crt tv.

Thanks for your help.

OK so I got the gun working HUGE thanks to chrisl for the settings need to the mame.ini file :notworthy:
but now I cant get games that use offscreen reload to work, is there a way to hook up a button
( I have a pedal I use for time crisis)  to make the gun reload instead oof actually shooting off screen?

I'm using Mame 129
and WinGun with these settings, the only guncon game working at an "OK" state right now is point blank, the others don't track the gun well at all for some reason.

The drivers are calibrated for a specific resolution.  If you change resolutions, the gun won't move the mouse correctly on the screen which will result in funky behavior of the gun crosshair in MAME.

I thought that might be a problem, should I adjust my desktop resolution to the one that I play the game with the most?
Can I recalibrate it with each game?

Thanks man.

IIRC, WinGun does not work properly.  It can not create 2 independant mice.

Use Guncon2:

Wingun does not create 2 mice if I remember correctly, but you can use it in MAME anyway.  You cannot use it in "mouse" mode though.  If you use "lightgun" mode, the position of the cursor is set each time a trigger is pressed.  I have not had any luck getting my Guncon 2's to work with MAME (non-custom compiled) for quite some time.  I have either custom compiled to remove the RAW input system or used MAME 0.117.

If you have a Guncon 2,  you need to use the Wingun driver as the other linked driver does not deal with the rolling x issue (or whatever it's called).

Thanks guys. I'l try using 117, but do I need to get the old roms to use it?  I'll try it later I'm replacing the sticking trigger microswitch in the guncon right now.

You can rebuild your set with CMP.  The other option is to check what gun games have been updated/added since 0.117.  I think I used to have a list, but since I've upgraded to a newer version, I probably don't have it any more.
