I enjoyed this. Nothing beats the original in my opinion, but it is a worthy addition. There were a few niggly little plot inconsistencies (and I don't normally notice these until someone points them out afterwards). But I found myself thinking 'did she really say that?' or whatever. I must have been unusually cognisable last night :D It didn't really detract from the experience though. Doesn't seem like there's been one movie, EVER, that doesn't have slip ups.
I was annoyed that it's always the black guy who has that extra perception. As if maybe he is more primitive and thus more in tune with 'nature'. And of course the toughest guy (who really would kick Chuck Norris butt) copped it first.
The beginning channeled 'Cube' a little , although it's not much of a spoiler to say that Predators isn't as grim.
Better than AVP but not as good as the original. I'll say 3.5/5 leaning towards 4

I appreciate the review, but you do realize that saying it's better than AVP is like saying it's better than a smelly dog turd you found floating down the storm drain. ;) Also since the original is considered one of the greatest scifi action movies of all time... right up there with T2... there is a butt-load of leeway in that statement.

But 100% correct ;D

Just got back from the theater and it's what I would call stupid fun. A number of the events or scenes don't make a lot sense, but since it's an action movie you don't want to over think anything, just accept it and move on. Overall I'd give it a 3/5. Far better the either AvP movie and at least as good, but probably a bit better then Predator 2, but no where near as good as the original.

Too much of a homage to the original for me, doesn't have its own identity. Heavy jungle setting, gratuitous use of the originals soundtrack, dialogue lifted from the original and aliens*!
So so characters and story, an enjoyable enough popcorn romp, 3rd best predator movie for me.
1) Predator
2) Predator 2
3) Predators
I'm kind of hard when I rate movies, I think about a rating a day or two after I've seen it, and a major factor me is - am I in a rush to see it again. For this movie, not really.
5/10
EDIT:
* That's Aliens the movie, the 1986 Cameron classic

3/5 for me.
I liked it, but just barely. Not a movie I'll watch again, or want to buy on DVD. But I liked it better than AvP.
I kept thinking of Christian Bale's Batman every time Brody spoke. He pulled off the tough guy well enough, but the voice sounded forced (because it was forced!). My fault for watching another Brody flick just two weeks ago ("Splice").
Overall predictable.
It was nice that they had the drilling platform for a change of scenery / more of a sci-fi vibe.
Very lame that the captured "prisoner" just happened to have his armor and weapons, etc just laying around the the same place he's held at??! wtf

And who makes all those wonderful toys for the predators? There's a lot of interesting stuff to explore in this universe, and they never do....
Yes! That was another thought that crossed my mind. How does a species like this get such technology? Is there a nerd class of predators? Are they only like this on hunting vacations, and then back at home are mild-mannered family guys hanging on the patio, drinking a beer after a long day at work? How are the kids raised and educated? Do they ride a school bus? LOL
And to answer your question, the guy strung up was a smaller predator (the one we're used to seeing in previous movies) and then came the bigger one. Were you sleeping when they explained this?

I kinda dug the old Predator music, but correct... The lack of different scenery screams low budget.... But I liked it overall. The guy in front of me, was telling his buddies that the "girl" was the one from the first movie, when she told the "story", but he would be incorrect. lol
What part from aliens did you see? I mean, was it a tagline of sorts...

I kept waiting for her to say she was the daughter of the girl from the first one.

I saw it over the weekend... wasnt to bad I just wanted more killing lol

I like it. Better than the AVP series but certainly not as good as the first. I actually prefer the homage back to the original.....jungle scene, music, etc.
Agree that the Dr. getting lost in the hallway/corridor was confusing to me...one minute he's in line with the pack and the next he's lost? Also I seriously dint even get his plot twist at the end. Did he really think he would be allowed to live by the Predators? That was just stupid IMO.
PBJ - I would imagine their technology is all the same so the smaller Predator's access to the ship seems plausible enough. What I didn't understand was why he was there in the first place. And why he was being held alive? I dint think 3 predators getting killed would cause a halt to dropping more prey on the planet. This probably happens on a routine basis. As far as you know another 3 predators are already on their way to start hunting.
And personally, I dont think there is much to their social structure that requires exploring. If I had to guess I would imagine its similar to the ancient Spartan society. Would that really add to the movie? And how in god's name would you explore the build up of their technology through film? Just accept that they are a futuristic race of lizard-like scientific geniuses with an insatiable bloodlust ;D
