New I-PAC firmware is available. This is currently only for I-PAC 2.
At the present this will be Beta when used as an upgrade, although it has been field-tested. (Thanks to Dan from Surface Tension for this).
The change is the I-PAC will support the "consumer control" keys:
Power
Sleep
Wake
Volume Up
Volume Down
Any button can be configured as these functions.
The firmware upgrade instructions are here: http://www.ultimarc.com/fwupgrade.html (http://www.ultimarc.com/fwupgrade.html)
There is a note about minimum existing level.
The firmware is available on request: andy@ultimarc.com

Any word on when this will be available for the IPac-4? I would LOVE the Volume control.

Volume control on the new MiniPac please..... :o
-
I was JUST wondering how to configure power-on via minipac.. I hope that will be available soon.
-
Oh man I can't wait for the volume controls on my ipac4! I set up the keys in winipac, but it just doesn't quite seem to work! :(
-
Andy got me this for the ipac4: http://www.mediafire.com/file/329i9ccaxqtoqov/ipac4_26a.ufw (http://www.mediafire.com/file/329i9ccaxqtoqov/ipac4_26a.ufw)

Thanks Kronic24601! Any idea about the jumper wire? I'm thinking it's something simple like grounding that pin, I'll have to take a closer look at home this evening.
-
good question, I asked Andy and will post back when I found out (unless he beats me to it) ...
-
Looks like it should be as straight forwards as this:
-
That was my assumption, but I'll ask just to be sure
EDIT: Yes, that is correct. I have done the update. One thing to note, this will not work if you use the PS/2 connector, you will need the USB adapter or cable to do both the update or to utilize the features of the update.
-
Hmmm... I've recently purchased my I-pac4 (ps2 version), so where does that leave me? Does a USB-PS2 interface work, or are the two totally different, then?
-
1) So far as I'm aware, all the Units have a PS2 interface on the board itself. Andy sells a PS2-USB cable if you want the cable portion. If you want to use the this software update, you need to use USB in one form or another. I used a USB/PS2 Adapter that you can get pretty much anywhere and it seems to work fine. Apparently however there are "converters" which are different than an adapter, and these will have problems ... so you don't want a converter, you want an adapter. Problem is, most websites don't make any clear distinction between them, but I think most are adapters.
-
Has anyone heard if this is relevant to the MiniPAC (or if an update is planned for that board too)?
-
I hope the MiniPac gets a firmware update :)
-
Yeah Minipac.. that would be nice.
It looks like from the Ultimarc link that the MiniPac will have a firmware upgrade...
But I am unable to find any firmware download links on the site?
Is there another location that I am missing for download?
-
have you tried emailing Andy Directly ;)
-
We do have a MiniPAC version of this firmware, in fact it was beta tested first on the MiniPAC.
I will get it released when we are back in the office on 20th.
Andy
-
And we'll need to email you then for a copy of the new firmware, correct?
-
Awesome Andy! I can't believe I missed this.
-
Grabbed my PS/2-USB adaptor from work today. I'll give it a go after work tonight.

my brand new minipac seems to handle the volume up/down pretty well... ain't that part of the new firmware?

Hey guys, i've got one of these i've tried updating with and it was no go:
Would it be worth trying one like this: (readily available from a friend, 20 minute drive away)

Or do i need "less", such as one of these:

?? ??? ??
EDIT: What's the ipac 4 USB pinout like? Can I wire up a cable myself from a ps/2 extension cable & usb extension cable i have tons of laying around?
-
How is it with the software? Which programs let you assing volume buttons. Can it be added to the MacIpac program. Are the key options is some XML list inside the application?
-
To change from PS/2 to USB, a PS/2 to USB conveyer is not what you need because all I-PACS are already USB so all you need is either the cable we sell or a small plug type of adaptor.

The WinIPAC program already supports these extra key functions, in the right-click menu when assigning keys, under the macro assignments.

Sorry, i should have responded earlier.
Last night i followed these pinouts to program my I-pac4.
http://pinouts.ru/InputCables/usb_ps2_mouse_pinout.shtml (http://pinouts.ru/InputCables/usb_ps2_mouse_pinout.shtml)
Everything went smoothly!

Something else I should have pointed out... My I-Pac4 upgrade wiring above is wrong. Is should be on the second terminal, not the third. The one it's on now, even though appears to be labelled GND is actually Coin1. To clarify, the pin is correct, but it needs to be connected to any ground terminal (the shielding on the PS/2 ports should work as well).
-
Bump for the new firmware....
Andy how was the vacation.. Did you find a beach somewhere.. Croatia maybe..
-
To be honest, I'm kind of surprised and disappointed that this new firmware hasn't made a bigger fuss.
-
Were can i download this new firmware?
-
Depends on what model of i-pac you have. There are some links posted above.
-
