I know there are plenty of topics about it and i have read a lot too. I know TV has almost the result of an arcade screen and that a CRT is too sharp and gives a somewhat crippled result with games on a lower resolution as the monitor can handle.
So you would say go for the tv. But what makes me hesitate is the way i must connect a TV. I am in NO way an electrician, and i do not understand much about electricity. And i am worried for my life ! hehehe :timebomb:
On the other hand, i am quite handy and i am a computer and networking expert. And connecting the wires on the CP does not scare me. I wanna know if it's feasible for me to do it? And if i do go for a CRT monitor will i regret it? Is it really so much worse?
thanks in advance!

I would say CRT. I've built a couple of machine with PC monitors and I've been very happy with the results.

I would say CRT because I toyed with both. With the crt, you have more options to mess with the display more than a normal tv. The normal tv lacks many options and requires a pc that has tv-out ability. Plus, navigating and browsing with a tv is very difficult because of how blurry the font is. If you have both at your disposal, try both of them out. I am currently using a 27 inch tv and suffer from the lack of sharpness. I went with a tv so I could hook up my ps2 and ps3 without any trouble. I also went with it because it is huge compared to my 17 inch crt. Even though the tv is blurry, games look great on it. I guess it depends on your setup.

Thank you for you response all. I bought a 25" trinitron tv with scart (RGB). A small screen just doesn't cut it for me. I really want to "feel" the arcade history if you know what i mean, and a 21" is a lot smaller. And i will make connection for vga/dvi and usb on the frontside of the cabinet in case i need to connect a monitor.

Seeing as your tv is a SCART capable tv and you like a big screen its a no brainer. You can get adapaters online if making one scares you but honestly you don't have to be an electrician...basic soldering and that's about it.

For a first project, my opinion would be to go for a TV.
Connection is as simple as a power cord and video input. Do like I did and modify your designs so that your tv will fit inside the cabinet without needing to be decased.
Just my two cents.

thanks... but i will de-case it. I have found someone who is an electrician, he will decharge it for me for free.
I do not wanna use the speakers from the tv, and the case is just too wide. I have some pics of the trinitron here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=103777.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=103777.0)

ok i have a question about this as i am mounting a 25 inch true flat tube style tv. how can i make it turn on every time it gets power without the need to hit the power button on the tv every time

you'll have to go in service mode to make it switch on, on power. To find the key combination to get in service mode, type model nr + service mode in google, but look out changing the wrong options could mess up your tv.

Or just shove something into the power button! Or if you have decased it join the wires from the power button. (assuming it autopowers on when power button is held in)
