Title: Anyone ever try (or have) one of these? (Super Shot Basketball like arcade)
Post by: kronic24601 on June 28, 2010, 04:39:20 pm
So I just bought a new house, and although it is a bit small, I do have a garage. I was thinking, one of my all time favorite games growing up (and now) would be Skeeball SUPER SHOT (http://www.skeeball.com/supershot.htm)... but ... since those things are like $5K I was looking at these alternatives.

Has anyone ever seen these in person, or know of any good alternatives (building plans for Super Shot etc..)?

Free Throw Duel Basketball Game (http://www.airhockeytableshoppe.com/free-throw-duel-basketball-game-p-32.html?osCsid=chtdzjfvzhb)
or
Harvard Double Shootout Basketball Game (http://www.airhockeytableshoppe.com/harvard-double-shootout-basketball-game-p-82.html?osCsid=chtdzjfvzhb)

The above choices are pretty reasonably priced, I just want to make sure it's still "fun".

EDIT: I noticed that UncleT has something similar, but not sure if it's the "same"

I don't think the smaller ones really capture what the larger ones have.  It doesn't look like it would be difficult to build one of those and it would probably be much cheaper.

Opps... that was 40 bucks shipped....   Have you looked on craigslist?  I still think finding an old cheap home one might be a good start (backboard/rim/balls), then building your own.

As for designs.  I bet you could copy the basics from images of the others, or just go into an arcade/chuck-e-cheese.  I still see those everywhere.

btw, happcontrols.com have the balls, the nets, but not the rims for the smaller size.  I think this might be the trouble you'll find.  And those rims might not be easy to just build.

Just sort of started my research, I haven't even moved in to my new home yet (and my wife is already a little pissed that I just bought a full skeeball machine. ;D) But thanks for the tips on those rubber balls Happcontrols sells ... I was just going to buy JR. actual basketballs, but these might be more "bouncy" like the way I remember it.

As for the rims, I'm pretty sure the newer versions use a traditional sized rim anyway, (NBA Hoops does), I'm not entirely sure what size the others have, but I've put in a "parts" request directly to skeeball for a quote. I don't know if it will be something I want to do just yet though ... still got a lot of research to pull off.

(Plus the wife is already demanding I buy her a massage chair ... since I bought the skeeball ...  wives ::))

You may not want to wait until January but I was able to get a double electronic Bball game from Sportmart originally priced $500 for $50 a few years back.  I noticed the large chain sports stores get a boat load of inventory to sell over the holidays and whatever is left over gets marked down tremendously after the new year.  May be worth it to wait it out until then to get a great deal.
