Title: Does MALA use any special Windows dll?
Post by: empardopo on June 23, 2010, 04:10:18 am
I've a friend who has installed a microXP in his PC; he doesn't see videos in MALA however these videos work in MicroXP.
Is it problems of MALA or operating system? MALA can use any DLL that is missing in the operating system? Is that possible?
Thanks

Are we talking two different machines? Or is mala installed on a machine, the vids don't work in mala but they can be played via other means?

And what version of Mala?

If the vids don't play in mala, but do in other apps, it could be simply that you don't have mala configured to look in the right places for the vids.

If they don't play at all in any app, you may not have the right codecs installed.

I believe older versions of Mala did use a dll you'd need, but I'm not sure what it was called. The newer beta mala has all that compiled in (I think, Loadman could correct me though!)

I only talk one machine. In that machine, the videos works fine in Windows however in MALA doesn't.
My friends has used the last beta of MALA.
DLL that you mention, where would be?
Thanks

MaLa (the latest beta) needs extra dll's.

It used to need bass.dll for audio and if you use win 98 you may need the hook dll.

Video may need normal windows dll's so scaled down versions of windows may cause issues  :dunno

Loadman, my friend is using MicroWindowsXP. How is possible that the videos work fine in Windows and however in MALA doesn't? That's what I do not understand.

Thanks

They are calling different Codec's no doubt.

Are you using the beta version of MaLa, if not you should try it?

Hi, I'm the friend of Empardopo.
I'm using the lastest beta and I think is not a codecs problem because intro video plays without problem. Also I tried another frontend in the same system and it is ok with the game's videos.
I tested the same Mala configuration in other SO and it work perfect.

I have all my configuration in a directory under the root "C:\emulation" and in this directory I have Mala and for example Atomiswave with all the necesary files (roms, snaps, videos, emulator, etc).

Never rule out Codecs. I've found that many of the videos floating around out there may have the same extension but use different codecs.

I've used GSpot to determine the codec of particular files before and it's been invaluable. Not saying that's definitely what the prob is, but it never hurts to check.

I've used GSpot for long time, but this time is not a codecs problem. If I put one of the game's videos as the intro, it plays without problem.
It is posible that the component used in Mala for game's  videos is in a dll that is not in the MicroXP?

Loadman, What dll is called by MALA? If I knew that, I could look for that dll in Windows system.

I can't answer that.  I have no idea what dll's Delphi Apps calls  ???  All I know is MaLa is tested and works on standard windows. 98SE, 2000, XP, Vista & 7.

But in regards video MaLa plays Xvid videos. You can use a variety of codec's, what dll's they call is up to the codec.

The bottom line is it should not be this hard.

I personally have no got time to test and the support non standard windows installs. But many have it working so it must be possible

Good luck to you  ;)

If you find out how to make it work pass on the info here in the forum for others

Thank you Loadman for your help and the work you do on Mala.
I know it is imposible test Mala in all non standart Windows so if I find a solution for this problem I will post it here.

I would seriously consider downloading and installing a codec pack.

I had the same issue and I never had issues playing any videos but that's because I used vlc. When playing video intros using vlc they worked fine but mala wouldn't play them. I installed a codec pack and mala now plays them fine.

Ivwshane I tried the stand alone XVID, the K-Lite Codec Pack Full and the CCCP Combined Community Codec Pack, always uninstalling the previous pack before install the new one. I think this is enought, but probably I will try it again.

I could only get it to work on my machine with ffdshow codec. stand alone xvid and klite both would give me issues like yours, where the video played, but not in mala. I would not rule out codecs as the culprit.

I will continue testing.
Thanks everybody!

That's the codec pack I used as well.

With another version of MicroXP (Windows Micro XP 0.82 SP3 con MUI 2001) i got it to work.
I've istalled WMP 10 and K-lite code pack 6.0.4 and the videos work fine in MALA.

Greetings!
