Title: Build your own Stargate
Post by: BobA on June 16, 2010, 10:30:23 pm
This is a bit odd.   I liked Stargate SG-1 and I have watched most of the other offshoots like SG Atlantis and SGU but to actually put this much effort into a home built Stargate seems really off the wall.

DIY Stargate (http://wtf.thebizzare.com/offbeat/home-stargate/)

It's not that odd really he could be building it for his home theater like they did with the stargate atlantis theater http://planetoddity.com/stargate-atlantis-home-theater-truly-sci-fi-pleasure/ (http://planetoddity.com/stargate-atlantis-home-theater-truly-sci-fi-pleasure/)

It would go great next to a Tardis.

Still good on the guy he's got the skill to do it so why not :applaud:

Does it still work if it's right up against a wall?

I think it would work best with a sliding glass door behind it, so you step through the stargate to go outside.

How about in front of the bathroom, and you make people dial the correct "address" before it lets them in ?

Or the fridge, with a random address generator == diet!

This would be pretty cool as an entrance to a home theater/ man-cave. Cool factor times 10 would be to have a working iris-type door in the entrance.

One with a working iris would be the better option for a movie room but it is pretty geeky

Ha ha, yeah I know it's judgmental.. but to each their own. If it was a good way for that person to relax that's cool.  I know at first a lot of people thought the arcade I'm working on was pretty geeky.. and it is, but they all want to try it out and most are really excited about it's completion.b

Man... I remember when I a teenager up to maybe 10th grade I had nintendo power posters, comic book cards, and action figures on my room wall.  Then one day I just ripped it all off the wall.. and started listening to rock and started paying attention to girls instead.  I didn't really game too seriously again all the way through college.  I dunno what to call it but it was more like social gaming rather than geeky gaming (halo, snk vs capcom 2, racing games, and drinking).  Now that I'm married, i'm sorta going back to that geek space.
